TROUBLESHOOTING
If you are having trouble getting BOS to run, or if it craches while playing, try these things first:
- Reset the machine and try again, one-off crashes happen with most software from time-to-time.
- Make sure that you are not running multiple programs while you are playing BOS, memory conflicts can occur.
- Make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX installed correctly and that it is working properly.

- Make sure that you have the latest version of BOS.

- Look through the following list of troubleshooting tips for your specific problem.

BEFORE YOU CONTACT US please take note of the following information:
- Your computer type and speed (eg. Pentium II 300Mhz 64Mb RAM or Pentium 166Mhz 16Mb RAM etc)
- Your video card brand, model (if known) and the amount of RAM (eg. Voodoo Banshee 8Mb AGP or Matrox Millennium 2Mb PCI etc)
- A detailed description of the problem. Are you able to repeat it?
- Your BOS version number (look in the bottom left corner of the title screen).
Problem: "UVBELib: Couldn't detect video hardware"
Possible solutions:
- Ensure the video card is capable of 800x600 display in 256 colours, has at least 1 Mb of video RAM, is a Super VGA and/or is VESA compatible.
- Manually set video card configuration (Options|Video Setup|Change|Manual override).
Problem: "UVBELib: UNIVBE.DRV file is invalid"
"UVBELib: UNIVBE.DRV file is an old version"
Possible solutions:
- Redetect video card (Options|Video Setup|Change|Autodetect or Manual override).
Problem: "UVBELib: (any other error)"
Possible solutions:
- Close all other running programs.
- Uninstall the game then reinstall it.
Problem: "VBE driver not found"
"VBE 2.0 or greater required"
Possible solutions:
- Check "Use built-in display drivers" check box (Options).
- Uncheck "Disable VBE 2.0 extensions" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
- Uncheck "Disable linear framebuffer" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
- Install the VESA driver that came with your video card, if any, and uncheck "Use built-in display drivers" check box (Options).
- Install the most recent version of Scitech Display Doctor.
Problem: "Video mode not available" "Couldn't set video mode" "Virtual scrolling not available"
Possible solutions:
- Ensure the video card is capable of 800x600 display in 256 colours, has at least 1 meg video ram, is a Super VGA and/or is VESA compatible.
- Manually set video card configuration (Options|Video Setup|Change|Manual override).
Problem: "Bank switched video modes not supported"
Possible solutions:
- Uncheck "Disable linear framebuffer" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
- Check "Ignore old VBE BIOS" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
Problem: "Couldn't determine the refresh rate of the display"
Possible solutions:
- Redetect video card (Options|Video Setup|Change|Autodetect or Manual override).
- Check "Use built-in display drivers" check box (Options).
- Check "Ignore old VBE BIOS" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
- Install the VESA driver that came with your video card, if any, and uncheck "Use built-in display drivers" check box (Options).
- Install the most recent version of Scitech Display Doctor.
Problem: "Oh my God, they killed Kenny."
Possible solutions:
- Ignore it. He'll be back next episode.
Problem: The game is running at half speed or slower (balls appear to move in slow motion).
Possible solutions:
- Turn off shadows (Options or F3 in-game).
- Set "Single screen detail" to "Maximum speed" (Options, or F9 in-game).
- Uncheck "Disable linear framebuffer" check box (Options|Video Setup|Options).
- Reduce the sound quality by unchecking "Stereo" and/or "Sixteen bit"; or disable sound altogether (Options).
Problem: The gameplay stutters or jerks occasionally.
Possible solutions:
This is partly due to Windows 95 and hence unavoidable, but it can be reduced:
- Close all other running programs, including those in the SysTray.
- Turn off shadows (Options or F3 in-game).
- Set "Single screen detail" to "Maximum speed" (Options, or F9 in-game).
Problem: The sound effects are delayed.
Possible solutions:
- Set sound device to "Autodetect" or "DirectSound" (Options).
- Adjust the sound quality by changing "Stereo" and/or "Sixteen bit" check boxes (Options).
Problem: The sound effects are garbled, and/or the music stutters.
Possible solutions:
- Try setting the sound device to "DirectSound" or "Wave mapper" (Options), whichever works better.
- Adjust the sound quality by changing "Stereo" and/or "Sixteen bit" check boxes (Options).
Problem: The sound effects are "scratchy".
Possible solutions:
- Try setting the sound device to "DirectSound" or "Wave mapper" (Options), whichever works better.
- Check "Sixteen bit" check box (Options).
Problem: Stereo sounds are coming from the wrong side, i.e. left and right are swapped.
Possible solutions:
- Check or uncheck "Reverse stereo" check box (Options).
Problem: No dotpanel visible on scrolling view.
- Press F9 in-game to switch to Software panel.

In the event our technicians at 716-871-6646 determine that you will need to forward materials directly to us, please include a brief letter explaining what is enclosed and why. Make sure you include the Return Merchandise Authorisation Number supplied you by the technician and your telephone number in case we need to call you. If our technicians determine that the product storage medium is found to be defective within ninety (90) days of original purchase, (unless otherwise provided by applicable law), GTIS will replace the item free of charge, to the original purchaser, if the item is accompanied by the original dated receipt and packaging. If you do not have the original receipt, or if the warranty period has expired, GTIS will replace the product storage medium for a nominal fee.
