07/02/2002 "I dream a lot and I put a lot of my dreams down as songs. 'Purple Haze' was all about a dream I had that I was walking under water." - Jimi Hendrix, 1967 ---------------:: PURPLE HAZE ::--------------- Title : Purple Haze Filename : Dranzdm7.bsp Game : Quake Author : Chris "Drannerz" Dransfield Email Address : drannerz@planetquake.com Web Site : www.planetquake.com/dazdranz Description : Large FFA map mainly inspired by efdm12/13. Gendm2 and auhdm1 also provided ideas. A lot of time and effort was spent designing the maps looks and atmosphere, I think I created a quite unique theme and the aesthetics of the map are impressive (in my opinion). Unlike my previous maps, which where build in hope, I actually tried to create areas and a layout that would play well - the atriums where all build specifically for the weapons they accomodate. Lighting is something I suck at, so I tried really hard (so hard I crapped my pants) with this one. I wanted a minlight value of about 50 in most of the level, but some areas I wanted to be dark; so I had to manually position entity lights at strategic points in the map with a brightness of 50 and an attenuation of 3. I say strategically because you have to position them so they don't over- lap, creating a brightness value of 100. It's not exactly rocket science, but it hurt my brain. Beta testers gave me varying figures when it came to player load. Personally, I think 10 player FFA works best. Thanks... : Xen (www.planetquake.com/xenon), Biff Debris (no idea about his webisite, sorry biff) DaZ (www.planetquake.com/dazdranz) for beta testing. Headshot, Bal, Mr Fribbles, the author of the Ogro textures set, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera for textures. I used such a variety of textures I'm sure I've missed people out. I renamed a lot of the textures in the map, so if you want to use any of the textures I suggest you track them down and download/steal them from somewhere else. DaZ for enduring 15 months of this map and putting up with hundreds of different versions of it. Also for maintaing the DaZ Dranz Level Cave with such enthusiasm. CardO, may he forever hold a boner. #terrafusion for endless support, insanities, advice and amusement. ---------------:: PURPLE HAZE ::--------------- If you love this level so much that you want to crap your pants; flip out and go nuts for absolutely no reason, even if it makes people think you might be totally insane or sweet; get freaky in someone's face or simply eat a cat - tell me, or give me money or something. ---------------:: PURPLE HAZE ::--------------- Single Player : No Cooperative : No Deathmatch : 6 - 12 players (10 works best, imo) Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : Yes (see above) New Music : No Demos Replaced : None Base : New level from scratch Known Bugs : None Build Time : 15 months (without food, water or sleep) Brushes : 3634 Brush faces : 24579 Point entities : 833 ---------------:: PURPLE HAZE ::--------------- Authors MAY NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
