Introduction - Installation
Thank you for purchasing Watch Dog. We hope this product lives up to your expectations and fulfills the purpose you have purchased it for. The documentation for watchdog, which is a part of this CD, will help answer the most likely questions that come to your mind and help troubleshoot any problems during installation or usage. This CD contains one single user licensed copy of ‘Watchdog’. We recommend a hardware configuration of a Pentium Processor, 32 MB RAM, Windows 95/98/NT.
The
Watchdog software is divided into 2 parts. The Server Module and the Client
Module.
The server module is the part, which has to be installed on the machine from
where the
surveillance is desired. The client module has to be installed on all the
machines on which
you want to keep a check on. You are authorized to install the server module
on only one
computer in your organization. The client module can be installed depending
upon the number of licenses purchased. Once configured, all the computers
on which the client module has been installed will appear in the machine list
of the server module through which they can be tracked.
It
is important that you should first determine as to who will be responsible
to maintain this
surveillance in the organization. Typically the server module should be loaded
on the boss’s computer. Else, it can also be loaded on the EDP Head. In that
case, take care of not installing the client module on the boss’s computer.
That would allow the EDP Head to track all the activities of the Boss.
If you wish to install the server module on more than one computer, an additional copy of the software will have to be purchased. The code, which you receive from your dealer, will work on only one machine of the network.
If you wish to change the machine in which watchdog has been installed, you will again have to get a new security code from the dealer. You will appreciate that this is not to cause inconvenience to genuine users but to counter the rampant piracy of intellectual property, which is prevalent in our country.
Watchdog Server Module Installation
From the setup page which loads up, select ‘Watchdog Installation – Server Module’. This should start the installation process. It should take around 5 – 10 minutes for the installation to get over. It is essential that you re-start your machine for setup configuration to complete. You can now proceed to add machines to your machine list. This will require you to install the client modules in all the other machines on which you want to keep a check on.
Adding
machines to ‘Machine List
You can add all the machines of your network to the machine list. You will be requiring the IP addresses of all these machines. The adding of machines is a one-time process. To simplify the adding of machines, the software has an Auto-Add’ feature. This will allow the server module to hunt for the client module on your network. To add machines select Main Add Machines Auto Add. Leave the server on in the ‘Auto Add’ mode and proceed towards installing the client module in all the other machines. Once the client module is installed and you run it once, it will ask for the server IP address. The server module already provides this information to you.
Watchdog Client Module Installation
From the setup page, select ‘Watchdog Installation – Client Module’. If the machine on which the client module has to be installed does not have a CD-ROM drive, you can use the Windows Explorer to copy the client setup files on any machine on your network, from where any machine connected on the network will be able to access the setup files.
Once you can access the client setup files, click on setup. It will take not more than 2-3 minutes for the installation to complete. Run the watchdog client program from c:\windows\wdc folder.
Only for the first time, the client module will show you a screen, which will allow you to register that machine with the ‘Watchdog Server module’. The client module requires you to mention the sever IP so that it can register itself. The server module has provided this information to you. Keeping in mind that the ‘Auto-Add’ Mode is running on the server module, click on register. This will add the machine in the machine list. You can now use the server module to keep track of all the activities, which take place on this machine.
Once all the machines of your network have been added to the machine list, you can start using ‘Watchdog”. You can use the various options in the machine list to monitor the machines in real-time. To generate reports on the usage pattern of the machines, you will have to update the log files by selecting main Update User records Update Log. For more details refer the Usage Manual

IP CONFIGURATION –
Very Important
If you are still not sure of the IP address of the machine where the server or the client module is installed, follow the procedure mentioned below:
1.
Right click on ‘Network Neighborhood’ on the desktop and select
‘Properties’.
2.
Search for ‘TCP-IP’ and click on properties.
3.
You should be able to find the IP address there. Please remember
that TCP-IP dial-up adapter is different from ‘TCP-IP Ethernet (LAN
card) adapter’. You have to see the properties of the latter

If your TCP-IP settings are empty, click on TCP-IP

IP address. You can choose any IP address for your computer.
Typically you can use 192.10.11.1. The subnet mask can be 255.255.255.0.
Its preferable that al the computers of your nwtwork have the same 1st two
parts of the IP address i.e 192.10.x.x in this case.

You will have to restart your computer for changes to take place
6. Once IP is configured on all the computers of your network and they are connected on a LAN via a Hub, Watchdog will be able to function correctly.
Watch Dog Registration / Purchase
If your copy is not registered, it will allow you to add only one machine other than your own machine and will only function for 30 days from the date of installation.
It is important that you first start Watch Dog and then connect to the Internet for obtaining your registration key. In case you are already connected before starting watchdog, please disconnect, start Watch Dog, open the register window, copy the lock and then reconnect to the Internet.
Direct User
Each installation of 'Watch Dog' will generate a unique and a new lock. To unlock it you will require a key which you can get from our website, provided you show the purchase code which we sent to you on receipt of payment. (www.rhombustechnologies.com/watchdog/directregister.asp).

purchased by you.
