XYRO B4 Software presents:
Crossview v1.0
Crossview is a little but mighty tool to display various types of file and registry information in a neat table. It can read and compare data from any computer on your network, and the output can be copied to other programs or documents for reporting purposes.
The view contents and the collected data can be
fully adapted and customized for your own usage.
Standard available views are: Installed programs, Registered ActiveX controls,
installation files in a folder, MSI file information, displaying an ini file in
a matrix.
Crossview is also capable of comparing the displayed info for two or more
different computers.
The product is delivered as-is. You will
discover some very powerful options while playing around.
Some notes are listed below.
Interface
Sorry, no toolbar. Saves space on the screen.
You'll learn to use the function keys. Ctrl-E etc.
Sorting data: no way (yet) to sort on more than 1 column. You can however use
excel for this.
Editing registry data: Remember, Microsoft keeps warning us to not edit registry data.
Drag-drop from explorer is supported, can handle folders, .xvw files and .ini/.txt files.
For more info on the supported macro commands from the command line, lookup Help - Command line.
Properties (Edit - properties)
The properties of a file or folder are listed in a separate properties dialog. The filetimes shown include the msec value only on NTFS file system. From the dialog you can launch any program, just edit the command line.
The properties of a GUID ({...}) will mostly
open a new view, if the GUID is one of next:
- a WindowsInstaller Product, a CLS-ID, a Typelib, or a WindowsInstaller
component.
Other data types don't have properties (yet).
Custom view editing
The data column in the view editor has a selection button (F4) to offer you some standard data entries. In registry mode, it will try and list some subkeys of the specified base registry path. In file mode most of the properties apply to .msi files. On .exe files, only 'Title' and 'Version' get real data. On .inf files, 'Title' and 'Subject' try to read data in the .inf file.
Custom view column condition
Please note, that the condition specified with a column is only checked if the concerned data column is really in the view (columns in standard/detail mode)
Custom view column references
If the condition contains a data reference to another column, like %3%, the referenced column data must be read before this column itself. This means the referenced column must always be to the left of the column with the reference.
The column data field itself can also reference data that is already collected by another column. Combining this with the option to start a data field with '\HKLM', you can thus set up a view that collects data from all over the registry.
Input
This product is still in a starting phase. We can use any feedback you may have.
