MarkVision for UNIX release 3.1 5/30/97 The most recent release of MarkVision for UNIX contains the following improvements and new features: New printers supported: Optra S family (all models) Optra SC Optra E+ New operating system versions supported: Sun Solaris 2.5.1 Sun Solaris x86 2.5.1 Silicon Graphics IRIX 6.3 AIX 4.2.x UnixWare 2.1.x New features: MarkVision for UNIX Intranet Servers MarkVision for UNIX Intranet Servers v1.1 is provided on as an optional client package on selected UNIX systems. This package allows users with a compatible (Java enabled) browser to run MarkVision from their desktop as a Java applet. The following browsers and operating systems are supported: Netscape Navigator for Windows 95/NT 3.01 Netscape Navigator for UNIX 3.0 Netscape Navigator for OS/2 2.02 Sun JavaStation Sun HotJava for UNIX 1.0 Sun HotJava for Windows 95/NT 1.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 95/NT 3.01 The following web servers are supported: Netscape Enterprise Server 2.0 Netscape Fasttrack Server 2.0 Netscape Communications Server 1.2 Any http 1.0 compliant server such as Apache The following UNIX operating systems supported: AIX 4.1.x and 4.2.x HP-UX 10.x Solaris 2.5, 2.5.1 SCO V Silicon Graphics IRIX 6.2, 6.3 See the user's guide for more information on installing and configuring the intranet client package on the UNIX system. TCP/IP Network Printer Discovery tool Version 3.1 includes a new utility tool (npsearch) that is designed to scan a TCP/IP network for printer adapters and build a database of all available printers. This database can then be inported into MarkVision. See the man page npsearch for more details. This utility is included in the MarkVision server package. Printer Inventory tool A new (mv_pinv) is included in version 3.1 that allows an administrator to build an inventory file of all printers currently being managed by the MarkVision server. See the man page mv_pinv for more details. This utility is included in the MarkVision server package. HP OpenView Network Node Manager snap-in Version 3.1 may be snapped into HP's OpenView Network Node Manager running on either HP-UX 10.x or on Solaris 2.5. The snap-in package may be found on this site in direcotry /pub/driver/unix/MarkVision/OpenView. See the documentation with the package for more details. Improvements: Extended status view Version 3.1 includes a new view window for printer status -- Extended Status. This view reports all known conditions of the printer in text format. The view is avialable from the main View menu and from the printer graphic view. Updated printer graphics view The printer graphic view has been improved to show a variety of printer warning conditions (e.g. paper low) for the Optra S, SC and N printers. These warnings are displayed in yellow on the printer graphic and in text in the extended status view.
