Subject:  MarkVision for UNIX systems upgrade packages  

Version: 3.1  

The programs contained in the packages in this directory are licensed for use
only as an upgrade to existing Lexmark International, Inc., TCP/IP Network 
Printer Utility, MarkVision Utilities for TCP/IP Networks, or MarkVision for
UNIX Networks installations.  Installation of the upgrade package requires 
the prior installation of one or the other of these products.

The upgrade packages in this directory are version 3.1.  These packages are 
equivalent to the CD-ROM distribution.  

Note: The upgrade packages include MarkVision for UNIX Intranet Servers 
for selected UNIX systems.   

Upgrade notes: 
    
1.  When upgrading the MarkVision client the print queues on the system should
    be idle.  

2.  After upgrading, the print queues defined using the previous versions 
    of MarkVision will continue to operate normally.  To take advantage of the 
    new support provided for Optra S or Optra SC printers new print queues 
    will need to be defined. 

3.  Both the MarkVision client and MarkVision server must be upgraded at the 
    same time.  

4.  The current MarkVision server must be installed and running on the system 
    used to unpack the mv_update file.   After unpacking the MarkVision client 
    package may be copied to as many UNIX workstations as necessary.

INSTALLING THE UPGRADE
----------------------

To install the upgrade: 

You must be logged on as root or superuser to install the package.

NOTE:  The current MarkVision Server must be installed and running on the 
computer on which you install the mv_update package. 

1.  Download the appropriate package to your system.

2.  Uncompress the file. 
    Note: The Silicon Graphics IRIX package is not compressed, please skip
          this step when installing.

3.  Change the file permissions on the package to 744 (execute)

4.  Run the command giving the full path to the executable.  
    For example, if you have copied the file to the /tmp directory on
    an AIX 3.2.5 system: 

	/tmp/mv_upd31.aix32

5.  Follow the on-screen directions.   
 
6.  Once the mv_update file is unpacked, installation is accomplished using
    the normal software installation commands for the specific system.  See
    the User's Guide for more information.
