Driver Updates ============== November 1996 ------------- Installation ============ The drivers included in this directory are direct replacements for the original LSS 5.00 drivers. Install and configure drivers as normal and then if you experience any of the problems described below, simply replace the driver with corresponding update from this directory. MADGEODI.LAN ============ With the release of NetWare 4.11 with Symmetric Multiprocessing support, a new server driver is required. This version of the server driver (MADGEODI.LAN v5.13) has completed Novell YES certification for NetWare 4.11 SMP as well as rigorous in-house testing. It is recommended that this driver is used in all NetWare server environments together with the Novell support modules provided. These modules are those available from Netwire as LANDRV9.EXE. Note, the original LSS 5.0(0) server driver (MADGEODI.LAN v5.09) and the associated support files are still shipped on the Smart LSS CD and can be found in the directory \LSS.500\NETWARE\SERVER. MADGEODI.COM, MDGND.DOS and SMART.EXE ===================================== A customer issue was reported with EMM386.EXE producing an exception error when a Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode was installed in certain machines using the Bus Master DMA data transfer method. The issue was traced to the BIOS of these machines not resetting the I/O range of the host DMA Controller, resulting in EMM386 incorrectly detecting an illegal DMA transfer operation. The solution to this issue is for the drivers to reset the DMA Controller registers relevant to the DMA Channel that the adapter is using. A separate customer issue was reported whereby the DOS ODI driver (MADGEODI.COM) was failing to correctly report a DMA clash in a badly configured ISA machine. The driver would fail to load in this situation in either DMA or PIO mode. The driver should have given an error message indicating that the card should be configured to a different DMA channel or PIO mode should be selected. Selecting PIO mode should have allowed the driver to successfully load. The above issues only apply to Smart 16/4 AT Ringnode, Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode and Smart 16/4 AT PnP Ringnode when used in conjunction with the DOS ODI driver (MADGEODI.COM v5.06), the DOS NDIS2 driver (MDGND.DOS v3.07) and the DOS SMART.EXE driver (SMART.EXE v3.64). There is no need to upgrade from the original LSS 5.0(0) driver if you do not use these adapters or drivers. The new drivers (MADGEODI.COM v5.07 and MDGND.DOS v3.09) are provided to address these issues. These drivers have successfully completed Madge's extensive in-house test procedure and additional measures to ensure that the issues have been fully resolved.
