TrueView Services Manager ========================= Copyright (c) Madge Networks 1996 This file describes features, issues and restrictions in TrueView Services Manager, which is new for this release of TrueView. For information on how to install TrueView, please refer to the Readme file for the device manager (e.g. CAU Manager) supplied with TrueView. FEATURES ======== On the Tools Menu of TrueView, there are a number of new service applications, providing the following facilities: - TFTP Server for downloads - BootP Server - Ping (to check if an IP address can respond - not supported on Win95) The Download Monitor displays downloads currently in progress (with the TrueView station acting as server). The following features are supported : - Monitoring options to allow the display of successful and/or failed downloads along with active ones. - Alerts can be sent to Alert Manager on completion of a download (successful and/or failed). - Monitor can ignore (i.e. not log) successful and/or failed downloads. - Downloads using RPL-LLC, RPL-IPX, TFTP-IP and TFTP-IPX. - Extended RPL download to allow multiple downloads at same time. - Timed Download Table. You can add devices to the download table to set a start time for download, new microcode filename, TFTP server, etc. A Configuration Menu (in the Tools section) gives a window that displays a tree-structure of your workstation's configuration. Use this when reporting any issues to Madge Technical support. ISSUES AND RESTRICTIONS ======================= BootP Server: Full pathname must be specified --------------------------------------------- In the BootP table, if you want to specify the microcode file to be used, you must specify the complete pathname, e.g: C:\TRUEVIEW\SCAP406.BIN If you specify a partial file name, the BootP client will not be given the correct microcode file name. Timed Download: Only supported by certain devices ------------------------------------------------- The Timed Download facility is only supported by certain devices. For Timed Download to be successful, the device selected must: a) support the download method selected (e.g. RPL over LLC, TFTP over IP) b) already have microcode installed which supports the MadgeBox MIB. For details of Madge devices which support Timed Download, please refer to the Readme file for the appropriate device manager. If you attempt to use Timed Download with a device which does not meet the above requirements, Services Manager will display a "Failed - start" error message in the Timed Download Table. Timed Download: Misleading "Failed - timeout" error message ----------------------------------------------------------- If you attempt a Timed Download using RPL over IPX or LLC on one of the following devices: * Madge SmartCAU * Madge SmartCAU Plus with Boot ROM version earlier than 2.6 * Madge SmartRAM with Boot ROM version earlier than 2.7 the Timed Download Table will display a message "Failed - timeout" for that device, regardless of whether the download has succeeded or failed. To be sure to know whether the Timed Download is successful, we recommend that you enable Post Alerts for Successful and failed downloads from the Download Monitor Options window. Use Alert Manager to check the Alert Log following the download process: this will indicate whether the download has succeeded or failed. *** End of README.SRV ***
