--- THIS IS INTENDED FOR HL2.5A ONLY. HL2.5E HAS THIS FUNCTIONALITY INTEGRATED WITHIN IT! HL128LDR.TXT (revised 12/1/2002) HyperLink 128 Fastloader-Fastbooter Enhancement 1.0 (C)2002 Cameron Kaiser. All rights reserved. Thanks to John Elliott and Robert Bernardo for testing this utility. -- IMPORTANT -- For questions, please contact spectre@deepthought.armory.com -- please note that is is a free, optional installation and no warranty is expressed or implied regarding its functionality. You use this program at your own risk. -- IMPORTANT -- Thanks for downloading the HyperLink 128 fastbooter enhancement, which allows HyperLink to autoboot in 128 mode. In addition, when booted from a 128D, DCR or any burst-capable disk drive such as a 1571 or 1581, this enhancement enables HyperLink to boot in less than one-third the time required by the stock C64. (Burst loading is not possible on the 1541 series of disk drives, although autobooting will work.) This is a free utility, but it is only supported for 2.5a. If you are using 2.5 or earlier, we strongly recommend you upgrade, as this enhancement is not supported with previous version(s) of HyperLink. To install the booter, you must do the following in addition to normal setup: 1. The booter is distributed as a self-dissolving archive. To dissolve it, just LOAD and RUN it in C64 mode with your HyperLink 2.5a disk in drive 8. (We recommend making a backup of your HL2.5a disk before making any changes to it.) Three files will be placed on your HL2.5a disk requiring ~3K of space (roughly 12 blocks). 2. Run the Configure program as usual from C64 mode if you have not already configured HyperLink for your hardware configuration. (See the documentation.) The booter module will not function until your hardware has been configured. 3. Once your hardware is configured, instead of starting HyperLink, reset to 128 mode with device 8 empty. Insert the HyperLink disk and type RUN"BOOT128 INSTALL",UD where D is your disk drive number (example: RUN"BOOT128 INSTALL",U8 ). 4. Make sure your HyperLink disk is in the correct disk drive, and follow the prompts to enter your device (8-11) and drive (0, or 1 for dual drive #2). The 128 installer will add the boot sector to your HyperLink disk (to track 1 sector 0) to allow it to autoboot correctly. 5. Reset your 128 with the HyperLink disk in device 8 to autoboot. Alternatively, to boot from another device number, reset the 128 with device 8 empty; then insert the disk into the desired disk drive and type BOOT UD where D is your disk drive number (example: BOOT U9 ). HyperLink will autoload in 128 mode, and then the computer will automatically reset to 64 mode and switch control to HyperLink. We hope you enjoy this enhancement to HyperLink's productivity.
