RSJ ANNOUNCES THE RSJ CD WRITER FILE SYSTEM January 1994 We've just finished an OS/2 file system which allows writing to Writable CDs. This file system has the following features: - simply access writable CDs via an OS/2 drive letter - to create custom CDs, just use COPY, XCOPY, the WPS or whatever tool you prefer - ISO9660 compliant - support for Kodak PCD Writer 200/225 and Phillips CDD 521, support for additional drives planned in future versions - multi-session capability - open and work with any session on the CD (including previously recorded sessions) General Description ------------------- The RSJ CD Writer File System provides transparent access to Writable CDs under OS/2. The product-specific advantages in comparison to conventional mastering software are: - Writable CDs are accessed like simple diskettes; all OS/2 programs designed to manage files on dikettes and hard drives can be used to create CDs. - no extra hard disk required to temporarily store an image of the CD - no extra SCSI host adapter required - runs with all SCSI host adapters supported by OS/2, providing they work together with the CD Recorder. - the CD Recorder can be used as a CD-ROM drive as well Hardware Requirements --------------------- - IBM compatible PC with an i386 CPU or better - SCSI host adapter with OS/2 support - 16MB RAM - CD Recorder Software Requirements --------------------- - IBM OS/2 Version 2.1 or better Supported CD Recorders ---------------------- - Kodak PCD Writer 200 - Kodak PCD Writer 225 - Philips CDD521 - Philips CDD522 Other recorders (especially Yamaha) will be supported in the near future. Supported CDs ------------- - CD-ROM recorded according to ISO9660 (read only) - Writable CD (read/write) - all CD sizes supported by the CD Recorder File System Details ------------------- - compatible to ISO9660 with extensions to support Multisession CDs - the CD maps to an OS/2 drive letter which can be accessed like a huge diskette via standard OS/2 commands and programs - OS/2 disk management commands (such as FORMAT, CHKDSK, ...) are supported - CDs are written in CD-ROM mode (Mode 1, Form 1 sectors). This allows using even old CD-ROM drives to read at least the first session of the CD. XA support is not required , reading multiple sessions, however, requires a multi-session capable CD-ROM drive. - previously recorded sessions can be accessed and even modified - CDs can be "sealed", which can be compared to a write-protected diskette. The write protection can be removed at any time Limitations ----------- - no support for extended attributes or long file names. Otherwise, the CD might be incompatible to conventional CD-ROM software - no multimedia support (play/record music tracks, ...). Multimedia support is planned in future versions. - no WPS integration (special drive object, ...). WPS integration is planned in futures versions.
