JANUARY 1, 1995. STARDOCK SYSTEMS (SDS) INC., following up their smash hit OS/2 multimedia game, Galactic Civilizations, announced a mini-application suite called "OS/2 Essentials" today. This suite of apps is aimed at every OS/2 user world wide and comes with a price tag likely to attract a great many of them. OS/2 Essentials includes a number of programs that every OS/2 user should have but doesn't come with the operating system itself. It includes commercial versions of: o Dir Master for OS/2, an advanced file manager o Screen Saver 2.0, a feature rich screen saver with green monitor support o Roids, a multimedia arcade game o Filebar, a task manager that acts as a launchpad/tasklist replacement o File Graph/PM, a multithreaded directory space grapher The features of these products alone make OS/2 Essentials a must have for any OS/2 user but the clincher is the $24.95 SRP price. Furthermore, SDS has an extremely aggressive wholesale pricing scheme aimed at attracting retailers to stock OS/2 Essential in quantity. "We want to show retailers that they can make money on stocking OS/2 products by offering them a wholesale price guaranteed to make them money." said Brad Wardell, a project manager at SDS. SDS is not ignoring the corporate sites where OS/2 has gained much support in the past couple years. Aggressively priced site licenses and an OEM version with a SRP of $19.95 should encourage shops that do not purchase software at retail outlets to get OS/2 Essentials. SDS expects OS/2 Essentials to become one of the best selling OS/2 products in history with its price/feature combo. A hit OS/2 product at the retail level should make it easier for future OS/2 products to get shelf space. It also opens the door for individual OS/2 software developers to make more OS/2 products as their works get published by a commercial ISV such as SDS. The shrink wrapped package will begin shipping later this month, the OEM version is available now. SDS, based in Gibraltar MI, can be reached at (313)/782-2248, fax (313)/782-9868.
