Pro Engineering, the recent start-up founded by former Corel engineer Daniel Levesque, announced today the introduction of a new software based RAID solution for users of OS/2 version 2.0 and above. Called EZRAID for OS/2, the product allows for the creation of software managed disk arrays using RAID level 0,1,4 and 5. Scheduled to ship on January 3rd, 1994, the product will have a suggested retail price of $795 U.S. and $995 Cdn. "EZRAID for OS/2 provides unparalleled flexibility in configuring a RAID subsystem," said Daniel Levesque, Pro Engineering's president and founder. "OS/2 users now have an attractive option over expensive and proprietary hardware based RAID systems," added Levesque. "For the first time, OS/2 users can combine virtually any off-the-shelf disk drive or controller together to create their own cost-effective RAID subsystem." EZRAID allows OS/2 users to add the benefits of RAID technology including; fault-tolerance with Hot Swap and Hot Standby, enhanced disk I/O and increased storage capacity to OS/2 servers and desktops. EZRAID offers seamless compatibility with industry standard disk drives and host adapters and supports all major interfaces including ESDI, SCSI, IDE and HIPPI. The product is the first RAID solution to utilize non-SCSI disk drives and host adapters. Any application, whether written for OS/2 or DOS/Windows will work transparently with EZRAID. Pro Engineering, founded in May 1992, provides I/O solutions for PC architectures. Daniel Levesque, the company's founder, was a principal hardware and software engineer with Corel Corporation. Mr. Levesque was instrumental in the development of CorelSCSI and was the author of CorelRAID for NetWare 386, a product developed by Pro Engineering and sold to Corel Corporation.
