Word Pro 96 Pre-Release for OS/2 Warp Release Notes and Installation Instructions NOTE: This Pre-Release edition of Word Pro 96 for OS/2 Warp may be installed on OS/2 Warp V3 (after the installation of the IBM FixPak 23 "Special Edition" available only on this Web site, not available from IBM and not the same as the standard edition of FixPak 23) or on OS/2 Warp V4 (code-named Merlin). Installing the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release for OS/2 Warp ---------------------------------------------------- 1. Download each of the self-extracting WORDPRn.EXE files from the Lotus Web site into the a temporary subdirectory on your local OS/2 Warp hard disk drive or a network connected hard disk drive. 2. Extract the install files from each of the WORDPRn files you downloaded by issuing the command WORDPROn.EXE (where "n" is the file number). If you wish, to save disk space, you can delete each WORDPRn.EXE file immediately after running it to extract the Word Pro install files. 3. Close ALL running applications. 4. Switch to the temporary subdirectory where you extracted the four WORDPRn.EXE files. 5. Issue the command INSTALL to begin the installation of the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release. Respond to the install prompts as required to complete the installation process. Installing and Testing the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release with the Freelance Graphics 96 Pre-Release: -------------------------------------------------- As the Pre-Release editions of Word Pro 96 and Freelance 96 provided on the Lotus Web site still have a few shared components at different build levels, running both Pre-Release products on the same system *may* introduce a level of instability which will not impact the basic OS/2 system but may cause a few odd errors in the Pre-Release applications - such as: minor menu bar corruption of one application after running the application for a while or occasional crashes of one application (such as Freelance) if the application is launched after the other application (such as Word Pro). These problems will be resolved prior to the official release of Word Pro 96 and Freelance 96 for OS/2 Warp. If you wish to run both applications side-by-side, launching Freelance Graphics 96 first, then Word Pro 96, may provide greater stability. Word Pro 96 Pre-Release for OS/2 Warp Known Outstanding Issues (Release Notes): ----------------------------------------- Below is a brief list of a few areas where finishing touches are req'd prior to the general release of Word Pro 96 for OS/2 Warp. o On some systems, attempting to save a document in HTML format causes a solid hang of the OS/2 system with the requirement to reboot using CTRL-ALT-DEL. o Opening an HTML (HTM) formatted document which contains two "BODY:" HTML tags may cause the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release to crash. o Attempting to create a monthly calendar using the MONTHCAL SmartMaster will cause the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release to crash on certain systems. o Selecting Edit / Script & Macros / Show Script Editor from the Word Pro menu may cause the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release to crash. o When you highlight a file name on the "Open from Internet" panel after pulling up a file list from an Internet FTP site the status bar may display unreadable characters instead of accurate information on the selected file after you have highlighted more than one of the files in the file list on the left-hand panel. o If you run the Word Pro 96 Pre-Release on an OS/2 Warp V3 or V4 system with the screen resolution set to 256 colors the "Properties" dialog box (also known as the Lotus InfoBox) will appear washed out and the text on the tabs of the InfoBox and the contents of each panel may not be visible. Switch to 16, 64k, or 16M colors to fix this problem. o Some older versions of S3 video drivers cause the screen not to update properly. The end result is stray lines through menus and other controls. Updating to the latest released drivers should fix this problem. o We are still working with IBM on many of the printer drivers included with this version of FixPak. You may experience some printing problems including incorrect page orientation, inverted graphics printing, and possibly some Word Pro crashes.
