$ A01 Field value has invalid format The number entered has an invalid character. The only characters you should use in this field are the digits 0 through 9, plus or minus, or a decimal point. $ A02 Field value out of range The number entered is outside the appropriate range. The range for VOLUME is 0 to 100 (percent). The range for TIME is 0 to 60 (seconds). Enter a value within the range. $ A03 System error, exit the AVC program and try again An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. You should exit completely and start over. You may need to reboot your system. $ A04 Currently nothing is retained for PASTE to use Before doing a PASTE, you must first do a LIFT or COPY. If you did a LIFT or COPY, but then mixed the file or brought in a new file to work on, the saved data was discarded since it was no longer valid. $ A05 undone Your last editing action has been undone. Lines you added have been removed, or lines you deleted have been restored. COPY: the lines you marked are no longer being saved. If you PASTE, the previous saved lines, if any, will be pasted. LIFT: the lines you marked have been replaced, and they are no longer being saved. If you PASTE, the previous saved lines, if any, will be pasted. PASTE: the lines you pasted have been removed. They are still being saved so you can PASTE them in a different place. DELETE: the lines you deleted have been restored. INSERT: the blank lines you inserted have been removed. $ A06 Last restored Your last editing action had been temporarily undone. Now it has been restored to the action you originally requested. COPY: the lines you marked are saved and can be pasted. LIFT: the lines you marked have been deleted and can be pasted elsewhere. PASTE: the lines have been pasted at the point you indicated. DELETE: the lines have been deleted. INSERT: the blank lines have been added. $ A07 Unable to create temporary files, exit and try again A work file is needed, and it cannot be created. You may be out of disk space or the system may be configured for too few files. Exit from your editing session. Then, check how much free disk space there is. If your disk is full or nearly so, delete some files to make more room. If there appears to be enough room on your disk, check your CONFIG.SYS file and increase the number of FILES or FCBS. $ A08 There is nothing to Undo The UNDO function allows you to cancel the previous editing action, namely a lift, copy, paste, delete, or insert. Undo is available immediately after making such a change, but when you go on to mix the audio or bring in a new file, the undo will no longer apply and the saved information will be discarded. Either you requested UNDO before making one of these changes or subsequent editing caused the undo information to be discarded. $ A09 Display format is now The display of the audio has been changed from tenths to full seconds or vice versa. For tenths, the display shows ten lines for each second of audio, or more than ten lines where an audio line has a multiple-line comment. For full seconds, each sound line displayed represents one second of audio, also with additional lines for multi-line comments. $ A10 Not enough storage to edit audio There is not enough memory to edit the audio file. If you are in OS/2, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure it permits swapping and that SWAPPATH= provides adequate free space. Also check the swap file drive to make sure it has 512K free. If you are in DOS, it may be that your system has insufficient free main memory (512K is needed). If you are slightly below the requirement, you should cut down on the resident programs in use by changing CONFIG.SYS to not load a device driver. Some programs, such as PRINT, become resident the first time you run them, and you may need to reboot to eliminate such a program. $ A11 Not enough storage to edit this audio file There is not enough memory to edit the audio file. If you are in OS/2, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure it permits swapping and that SWAPPATH= provides adequate free space. Also check the swap file drive to make sure it has 512K free. If you are in DOS, it may be that your system has insufficient free main memory to edit a file of this size, although a smaller one may be edited. You may be able to cut down on the resident programs in use by changing CONFIG.SYS to not load a device driver. Some programs, such as PRINT, become resident the first time you run them, and you may need to reboot to eliminate such a program. Check the number of BUFFERS, FILES, and FCBS specified, since all of these take memory space. If you are using DOS and editing Sound B, you may be able to work on the file as Sound A. Save the changes made so far, and then bring in the same audio as Sound A. This may make enough memory available for you to continue. $ A12 ENTER exits WITHOUT SAVING Audio changes, else ESC resumes edit You are about to exit without saving the changes you have made. If you want to exit anyway, press Enter. If you want to resume editing, press Escape. $ A13 The block defined has reached maximum size The section you are blocking for lift or copy is as large as can be handled, so you will need to make this change in more than one step. Paste the section you have blocked. Then go back for the rest. $ A14 Invalid method specified The word specified for method must be VOLUME. $ A15 Error reading audio file(s), exit the AVC program and try again The file cannot be read. Either there is a problem with the disk or diskette drive or the file's data has been damaged. Correct the problem and try again. $ A16 Error writing audio file(s), exit the AVC program and try again The file cannot be written. There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. You may have to delete the file if it was partially written. $ A17 Not enough storage to complete operation There is not enough memory to complete the operation. $ A18 Audio card not installed or damaged The audio card is not responding. Either your system has no audio card, it was not installed properly, or it has been damaged. Check the card and the installation instructions. $ A19 Audio card software not found or damaged (IBMAUDx.DSP) The audio card uses "signal processor" software in a file with the extension DSP. Either this file could not be found to be loaded, or the file has been corrupted. Exit the AVC and reinstall audio to correct the problem. $ A20 ENTER gets new audio WITHOUT SAVING Audio changes, else ESC get You have selected a different audio file without saving the changes made to this one. If you want to discard the changes and bring in the new audio file, press Enter. If you want to save the changes you've made first, press Escape to cancel the request for the new file. Save the changes to this file. Then repeat your request for the new file. $ A21 Not enough room for more text lines The audio file has now reached the limit for text. You may be able to delete some lines to make room for additions. $ A22 Maximum length of audio section has been reached You are at the physical limit of the sound track. Put any further recording in a separate file. If you are using DOS and editing Sound B, it may be that there is not enough available memory. Save the changes made so far, and then bring in the same audio as Sound A. This may make enough memory available for you to continue. $ A23 Error on temporary file, unable to perform editing request There is a problem with the audio work file. It may be a problem with the disk, or it could be that the disk is full. Save the file you are working on, exit the session, and correct the problem. $ A24 Upon ENTER the copy buffer will be lost, else ESC Lines from a previous COPY or LIFT are still being held, but are about to be discarded. Press Enter to continue what you are doing or Escape to cancel. If you continue, the saved lines will be discarded. $ A25 Nothing present to edit Since there are no lines in the file, there is nothing to be copied, lifted, or deleted. The request is ignored. $ A26 Cursor down to begin inserting comments/silence To insert the first line, move the cursor down one line. Continue to move the cursor down to insert multiple lines. Press Enter to complete the insert. If you started with the cursor in the SOUND column or moved the cursor over to it before cursoring down, you are inserting silence in the sound track. Silence is inserted in units of either full seconds or tenths, depending on your current ZOOM setting. $ A27 SOURCE LINE set to xxxxxxxxxxx, will use for recording Your recording source has been set, as indicated by the message. The settings are: Microphone (standard gain) Microphone (high gain) Line (both channels) Line (left channel) Line (right channel) The setting only applies to the current session. To make the setting permanent, edit your Profile on the AVC Library screen. $ A28 Currently no Audio B is present to switch to You tried to switch over to Audio B, but there is no audio B file being edited. The request is ignored. $ A29 File is being reformatted to reduce the size The audio file is being reorganized to cut down on the amount of disk space it takes. Since this process will read and write large segments of the file, it may take a few moments to complete. The reformatting may occur even if you requested that your changes NOT be saved. In this case, it is the original file that is being reformatted, and the reorganized file will have only the original material. $ A30 One moment, please... Internal processing is taking place. You must wait for it to finish. $ A31 Cannot find or open audio data file (.!AD) The main audio file is available, but the digital audio portion is not. The digital audio has the same name as the main file, but with the file extension _AD or !AD. It may be that it was not copied to your directory with the main audio file, or it has been deleted or renamed. Cancel the operation on this file and correct the problem. $ A32 Audio card not installed Either your system has no audio card or it has been disconnected. If you have a card, check its installation. $ A33 Audio device driver not installed or device is in use (AEDD_OS2.SYS) In order to play or record audio, you must have the audio device driver installed. The device driver program must be on your system, and the CONFIG.SYS file must have a statement of the form: DEVICE= (path) AEDD_OS2.SYS Edit CONFIG.SYS to include the statement and reboot your system. Watch for any error messages concerning the device driver during system startup. If the path information is incorrect, the system will not be able to find the device driver and it will not be installed. Even if the device driver is installed, the audio card can only be used by one application at a time. If you have another application that is using the card, you will need to terminate it to make the audio device available. $ A34 Sync point set at position 0000 You have set the sync point at the start of the audio. Since this is the default position, it is not marked on the screen. $ A35 Sync point adjusted due to deletion of its prior line One of the lines just deleted was marked as a sync point. The sync mark has been kept and placed on the first available remaining line. $ A36 Currently no play block is present for REPLAY The REPLAY function lets you play a block a second time. Since no block has been marked for playing, the request is ignored. $ A37 RECORD is at pause, press ENTER to begin (Monitor=xxx, Source=xxxxxx) The system is ready to record. When you are ready, press Enter to start. The message also shows the monitoring status (whether playback during recording is on or off ... it is always off for stereo) and the expected audio source (microphone or line) and its gain setting. $ A38 RECORD in progress, press ENTER to pause or press ESC to stop Recording has started. Press Escape when you are done. If you want to pause momentarily, press Enter, then press Enter again to resume. $ A39 Recording stopped, disk is too slow or fragmented The digitized audio cannot be written to disk fast enough to keep up with the audio being recorded, and recording has been stopped. In OS/2, it is possible that a background process is contending for system resources, causing simultaneous disk activity for swapping. Cancel other sessions. You may need to take down the network. If the audio is being written to a secondary device such as a diskette, it may be that the device itself is too slow to handle the speeds needed for recording. Record to the fixed disk and then copy the finished files to the secondary device. If the secondary device is slow, you may have some undesirable skips during playback, so you should check for this as well. If you are writing to your hard disk and there is no system contention, the data on your disk is probably fragmented and needs reorganization. Obtain a "disk organizer" program and reorganize it. Doing so will improve your overall system performance as well as audio. $ A40 Currently no record block is present for RERECORD The RERECORD function lets you record a block a second time. Since no block has yet been recorded, the request is ignored. $ A41 Recording - [ seconds ] [ volume ] Recording is in process, with the time and volume shown as it proceeds. To stop recording, press Escape. To pause, press Enter, and then press Enter again to resume. $ A42 Audio save in progress The audio file is being saved on disk. This may take a few moments to complete. $ A43 Audio saved The audio file has been saved on disk. $ A44 Currently no Audio B is present to be saved You requested a file save for Audio B, but there was no audio file being edited. The request is ignored. $ A45 Currently no Audio B is present to be created You requested a file create for Audio B, but there was no audio file being edited. The request is ignored. $ A47 Audio create in progress The new audio file is being created on disk. This may take a few moments to complete. $ A48 Audio created The audio has been saved as a new file in the current application with the name you indicated. This is now the file being edited. All changes since the last "save" or "create" function were saved in this new file. These changes were not saved with the audio you were previously editing. $ A49 Save error occurred, Create New has been stopped There was a problem with the disk or diskette drive while the file was being created. It may be that the disk is full. Correct the problem and try again. You may have to delete the file if it was partially written. $ A50 Audio file already exists: change name or else ESC There is another file with the name chosen. Either use a different name or cancel the operation. $ A51 Unable to create or write to file, disk may be out of space Your disk is full. If you have access to another drive, you can try saving the file on that drive. If you are using OS/2, you may be able to hotkey to DOS, free some disk space by deleting files, and then try again to save the file. Otherwise, you will have to cancel the operation (your changes will be lost, but your original file should be intact), exit, and free disk space. $ A52 Unable to create file, too many files open The file cannot be created because the number of files now in use has already reached the limit. If this situation recurs, change your CONFIG.SYS file to permit more files to be open. $ A53 Audio must be saved at least once before CREATE NEW is requested Since the file was already indicated as being new when you started, you merely select the save option now. This will save the new file. Use CREATE NEW when you make changes to an existing file, but want to save the changes under a new name, leaving the original intact. $ A54 MONITOR RECORDING is set for playback of recorded audio MONITOR set for playback of recorded audio (Stereo files set for source) MONITOR RECORDING is set for playback of audio source MONITOR RECORDING set to OFF, no playback during recording Monitor-recording status, which provides playback of the audio while you are recording it, is in effect or switched off, as the message says. Monitoring is always in effect at the start of the session. Monitoring the source means that you will be listening to the original audio before it is digitally compressed. Monitoring the recording means that you will be listening to the digitized audio played back. For stereo, you can only monitor the source. If your setting is to monitor recording, the system will actually be playing the source if the audio is stereo. $ A55 There is no label, comment, or control text to print There is nothing in this audio file that could be printed. The print request is ignored. $ A56 PRINT in progress, press ENTER to pause or Esc to stop Your print request has been started. If you need to stop it momentarily, press Enter. To cancel, press Escape. $ A57 PRINT is at pause, press ENTER to resume You requested that printing stop momentarily. Press Enter to continue printing. Press Escape to cancel the rest of the printout. $ A58 Printer error has occurred, PRINT has been stopped There is a problem with the printer. It may be out of paper, or it may be that the paper is torn or jammed. Correct the problem and try again. $ A59 The block defined has no label, comment, or control text to print The block marked for printing is entirely blank. It will not be printed. $ A60 Cursor up/down to size block, press ENTER to begin Move the cursor to the last line you want. Then press Enter. This will complete the step of marking the set of lines. If you only want one line, press Enter on that line. $ A61 Copied area now retained for a following PASTE The lines you marked can now be pasted. Move the cursor to the point where the lines should go (they will be pasted ahead of that line) and select the PASTE function. $ A62 Lifted area now retained for a following PASTE The lines you marked have been deleted and can now be pasted elsewhere. Move the cursor to the point where the lines should go (they will be pasted ahead of that line) and select the PASTE function. $ A63 SOUND CONTROL set to xxx, entries are applied/bypassed during play If sound control is ON, the entries for method, volume, and time are reflected in the audio that you hear. If sound control is OFF, the original audio is played. $ A64 Currently no Audio B is present to be mixed You requested a mix for Audio B, but there is no audio B file being edited. The request is ignored. $ A65 Invalid name for audio file: change name or else ESC The name given to the file cannot be used. Choose a different name. $ A66 File is not available: change the name or else ESC The file requested is in use by someone else. Either choose a different file to work on or press Escape to cancel the request altogether. $ A67 Audio file already exists: press ESC to stop or ENTER to proceed You are about to write this file over a file of the same name, and the data currently in that file will be lost. Press Enter to go ahead with the operation. Press Escape to cancel it. $ A68 Audio must be saved at least once before used in a MIX Before proceeding with the MIX operation, you need to save the file to establish it on disk. First save the file, and then proceed with the MIX. $ A69 MIX in progress - [ percent ] complete, Esc to cancel Mixing is in process, with an approximate percentage of completion shown as it proceeds. To stop mixing, press Escape. To pause, press Enter, and then press Enter again to resume. $ A70 PERMANENT SOUND MIX in progress, re-digitizing via sound controls Audio is being permanently changed to reflect the entries in the method, volume, and time columns. This may take a few moments. After MIX is complete, the sound control entries will have been removed. $ A71 Sound mix successful but comments truncated at maximum allowed The two sounds have been mixed together, but the total number of comment lines between them exceeded the maximum number possible. Comments near the end have been dropped. $ A72 Mixing complete, rebuilding audio file Audio has been mixed and is being written to the disk. This may take a few moments. $ A73 Changes in x will be lost after mix: ENTER to proceed, ESC to stop Changes have been made to the file. The mix will include those changes, but since it is to a different file, the original file's changes will be lost when it is released. If you want to go ahead with the mix, press Enter. If not, press Escape. $ A74 Auto-scrolling set to for background, for play/record You have set the auto-scroll option. When auto-scroll is on for play/record, the text of the audio file moves up the screen, tracking the audio as it plays or is being recorded. When auto-scroll is on for the background, the background sound scrolls along with the foreground sound, during cursoring as well as play or record, tracking it according to the sync points for the two sounds. $ A75 Playing - [ seconds ] [ volume ] Audio is playing, with the time and volume shown as it proceeds. To stop playback, press Escape. To pause, press Enter, and then press Enter again to resume. $ A76 HELP not available Unable to run HELP. Either there is not enough memory to run HELP or the help subsystem was not installed. $ A77 Copy buffer contains different type of audio, PASTE not allowed The type of audio you copied or lifted does not correspond to the audio in this file. The different audio quality types -- voice, music, and stereo -- are all encoded differently and cannot be combined in this way. $ A78 Mix will change audio type: Enter to proceed, else ESC to stop Mixing will change the audio to music mode. If the audio is voice grade, quality will not change but the file will be larger. If the audio is stereo, the file will be smaller but quality may degrade slightly. If you want to go ahead with the mix, press Enter. If not, press Escape. $ A79 All audio files being mixed must contain sound You requested a MIX function, but at least one of the files being edited has no recorded audio. The request is ignored. $ A80 Background play off, a (S) or (HM) file can not be played with other files Background play has been switched off, since the audio is stereo or FM. $ A81 Unreadable audio segments in audio file replaced by silence The audio file can only be partly read. Some parts have been lost or damaged. The unusable parts will be replaced by silence. It may be that what is lost is only a fraction of a second and will not be noticeable, or it may be that enough has been lost to make the audio unusable. Play the audio to determine whether you will have to rerecord it. $ A82 BACKGROUND PLAY option set to Background play has been turned on if it was off, or vice versa. Use ALT+K to switch background play on or off. $ A83 Operation cancelled, can not be run as a background task You switched to a different session while audio was being processed, and the operating system made the AVC a background task. The audio processing stopped as a result. Repeat what you were doing, but don't switch tasks until the audio operation is complete. $ A84 File too large, use SAVE or SAVE AND EXIT to reformat the file Because of changes made so far, the audio file has reached its size limit. At this point, you need to save the file before continuing. The save operation will reorganize the file and reduce it in size. If you were recording, the recording has been stopped, but the sound recorded up to this point is in the file. If you were trying to mix or paste, the operation was cancelled before any part of it was done. Save the file. Then continue what you were doing. $ A85 File is too large to mix, reduce size and try again There is not enough memory to mix a file of this size. The mix was not started. It may be that the file is stereo and longer than 8 minutes or that you are mixing two files together, and the sync points are set in a way that would produce a mixed soundtrack longer than 10 minutes. You will need to split your audio into shorter tracks. If you are in DOS and mixing with sound B as the target, the result of the mix will be too big to be held as sound B. If you are mixing A on top of B, you may be able to achieve what you want by mixing B on top of A instead. If you are mixing only B, you can exit and then bring in the audio as sound A and then mix it. $ A86 Cannot write to a read only file The sound you are trying to update is either on a read-only drive or marked as a read-only file. The operating system will not permit it to be changed. You can save the sound as a new file on a read-write drive. Use the "create new" option to do so. $ A87 A MIDI file can not be played in DOS Support for MIDI is only available in OS/2. $ A88 Background play off, a MIDI file can only be played with a VOICE file Because your secondary file isn't a voice file, the background play option has been switched off. MIDI can only be accompanied by voice. $ A89 Recording not allowed with MIDI files A MIDI file can only be played back. The AVC does not record MIDI. $ A90 MIDI (MI) or (HM) files can not be used as source or target of mix Neither MIDI nor FM files can be mixed. To mix, your mix files must be voice, music, or stereo. $ A91 MIDI assignments allowed only on MIDI (MI) files This function allows you to assign instrument "voices". It applies only when the file you are editing is a MIDI file. $ A92 Invalid voice/control value - Use PROMPT for list of correct values Your entry for voice or control value is unrecognized. It may be spelled incorrectly. Use F10 to pull down the Prompt menu and select the entry from the list. $ A93 ENTER exits WITHOUT SAVING changes, else ESC resumes editing You are about to leave the screen without saving your MIDI assignment changes. If you want to exit anyway, press Enter. If you want to resume editing, press Escape. $ A99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ C00 INTERNAL: function not available The function requested is not supported. $ C01 Displaying original image: The original image is now being displayed. $ C02 Move/size crop area by cursoring You can reposition or change the size of the crop box by moving the cursor. Use the cursor to shrink or expand, or to reposition the box. Use the tab key to switch between the two functions. $ C03 Displaying converted image The converted image is now being displayed. $ C04 Move/size partial area by cursoring You can reposition or change the size of the partial area by moving the cursor. Use the cursor to shrink or expand, or to reposition the area. Use the tab key to switch between the two functions. $ C05 ENTER exits WITHOUT SAVE, else ESC You are about to exit without saving the changes to this image since the last save. If you want to exit anyway, press Enter. If you want to resume editing, press Escape. $ C06 Processing interrupted by ESC You pressed Enter before the function was complete. The function has been cancelled. $ C07 File exists: change name or ESC There is another file with the name chosen. Either use a different name or cancel the operation. $ C08 Converted image saved The full image was converted and has been saved on disk. $ C09 Converted partial image saved The partial image was converted and has been saved on disk. $ C10 Converted image created The image was converted and has been saved as a new file on disk. $ C11 Converted partial image created The partial image was converted and has been saved as a new file on disk. $ C12 HELP not available Unable to run HELP. Either there is not enough memory to run HELP or the help subsystem was not installed. $ C14 Palette Menu not available There are no palettes that can be found on the system. The list of palettes, or the palettes themselves, may have been erased from your user directory. Exit the session and correct the problem. $ C15 Default Palette not found The default palette is not available. The palette corresponds to the default image mode specified in the profile. To correct the problem, change the default image mode by editing the profile or make sure that the default palette is correctly specified in the list of palettes. $ C16 No custom colors in current palette The palette selected was constructed for use with text only. It either has no colors defined for color mapping or only has one. At least two custom colors are required to convert an image to a mapped image, but more than that should be defined to give proper results. Select a different palette. $ C17 No batch in progress - DO ignored DO Batch was selected, but no batch is active. The request is ignored. A batch is active when more than one image is selected from the list for conversion. $ C18 Requested image mode is not active The mode of the image selected or the default mode requested is not available on this system. Verify your system configuration to make sure it contains the hardware necessary to support this mode. $ C20 ENTER exits/cancels batch, else ESC You have interrupted a batch conversion of images. Press Enter to cancel the batch at this point. Press Escape to resume processing. $ C21 File not found The image requested for conversion could not be found. Check the spelling of the name and try again, or ask for a different file. $ C22 No palette selected, default used From the Select Palette menu, you chose Others, but cancelled the function without selecting a palette. The previous palette is still in effect. The starting palette for the session is the one which corresponds to the default image mode in your profile. $ C23 Sel.palette not found, default used There is no palette with this name. The default palette is being used instead. You may select a different palette. $ C24 Error on file read/write There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. $ C25 File type is unsupported The file you are trying to convert is not one of the types recognized or the file's data has been corrupted. $ C26 This TIFF image is not supported The file you are trying to convert is a TIFF image, but it is not one of the TIFF formats that can be handled. $ C27 This IMDS image is not supported The file you are trying to convert is a IMDS image, but it is not one of the IMDS formats that can be handled. $ C28 This image is not supported The file you are trying to convert is not one of the formats that can be handled. $ C29 This TGA image is not supported The file you are trying to convert is a TARGA image, but it is not one of the TARGA formats that can be handled. $ C30 Palette incompatible with adapter The palette selected cannot be used with the video graphics available on this system. Choose a different palette. If the palette is for an 8514/A, the problem may be: - the 8514/A adapter card is not installed in the proper video slot - the card doesn't have enough memory (all sockets must be populated) - memory chips are upside down (notches should face the same direction) - J5 pins not connected (jumper must connect pins nearest edge of card) - if in DOS, program HDILOAD not started (run it before starting AVC) - if in OS/2, HDILOAD.DLL not found (check LIBPATH in CONFIG.SYS) $ C31 Not enough memory There is not enough memory to complete the operation. You will also need to reboot if you change your CONFIG.SYS file. $ C32 Not enough LIM memory There is not enough available expanded memory to hold the image you are trying to convert. Exit the session, and then start the session over and try again. Exiting may free enough expanded memory for you to proceed. If that fails, you will not be able to convert this particular image without adding more expanded memory to your system. $ C33 INTERNAL: Palette cusfix too large An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ C34 Image not supported--too large The image is too big to be converted. Select some other image. $ C35 Box at screen boundary The box is at the edge of the screen. $ C36 Box must contain some of the image The box has been moved completely outside the area of the image. Move it back into the image and then continue. $ C37 Profile Default image mode invalid The default image mode in your user profile has an erroneous value. It is possible that the file PROFILE.!UP has been damaged, and if so you will need to reinstall it. Check the file and then edit your profile to select an appropriate default image mode. $ C38 Image can not be converted--corrupt The image cannot be used by convert. You may select another image. $ C39 Crop box too small The crop box must be larger than currently specified to enlarge and convert the selected area. $ C40 Save failed--permission denied The image being converted is marked as a read-only file, meaning it may not be changed. As a result, you cannot replace the original picture with the converted version. Use "Create new" to convert the image into a different file. $ C41 Non-AVC file exists, save canceled A file already exists with the same name. Either choose a different name or use ESC to cancel the operation. $ C42 Non-AVC image created The image was converted and has been saved as a new file on disk. $ C43 Non-AVC partial image created The partial image was converted and has been saved on disk. $ C44 No valid point size in font Text fields contain reference to a font size which does not exist. The text has not been converted. It is may be that the AVC fonts have been damaged. If you think this may be the case, delete the AVC "_FN" files from directory SYSTEM.!AV and reinstall the AVC. $ C45 This BMP image is not supported The file you are trying to convert is a BMP image, but it is not one of the BMP formats that can be handled. $ C99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ D02 Warning. Default text information is not in the palette The palette selected has no text defined. If you want a palette with text, choose a different palette. If no text is needed, you may continue with this palette. $ D03 HELP not available Unable to run HELP. Either there is not enough memory to run HELP or the help subsystem was not installed. $ D04 File already exists: change name or else ESC There is another file with the name chosen. Either use a different name or cancel the operation. $ D05 Selected palette not found, select another There is no palette file with this name. The file may have been accidentally deleted. Either choose a different palette or exit the session and recover the palette you want from the backup diskette. $ D06 Entry invalid, use F7 to rotate through the selections No selection matches the characters typed, or more than one does and the program can't tell which one you want. You can use the F7 and F8 keys to scroll through selections for this field, or you can choose one of the selections from the Prompt menu on the action bar. $ D07 Image capture adapter configured for protect mode The image capture adapter has mapped I/O that was configured above the 1 megabyte address range. This cannot be accessable in DOS but can be in OS/2. Either run under OS/2 or reconfigure the adapter by inserting the Reference diskette in drive A , restarting the system, and selecting "Set configuration". Select an option for the "Video Storage Address Select" that is in the C0000 or D0000 segment. $ D08 Not enough custom colors present in this palette The palette selected was constructed for use with text only. It either has no colors defined for color mapping or only has one. At least two custom colors are required to convert an image to a mapped image, but more than that should be defined to give proper results. Select a different palette. $ D09 A palette has not been selected - select a palette In order to produce a mapped image, you must first select a palette. $ D10 Unable to access video storage for the image capture adapter The video storage for the capture adapter was not detected. Insert your Reference diskette in drive A and restart your system, then select "View configuration" to see if the adapter has been recognized as configured and that the "Video Storage Address Select" selection is not in conflict with any other adapter. If the adapter does not appear, then review instructions on installing the image capture adapter. If it is listed but there is a conflict, select "Set configuration" and select a different location for the video storage. If there are no conflicts, then select "Test computer". This selection will test your computer including the capture adapter. $ D11 Image capture video storage is in conflict with other storage The image capture memory mapped video storage has been assigned a region that is being used by another device. Run manual configuration from your reference diskette. The configuration screen should indicate any conflicts of resources. Some cards may take up resources not known to the configuration procedure, such as an expansion memory adapter. If you are in DOS and have a device driver for expanded memory, the segments used for expanded memory may overlap those for the capture card. Read the documentation on the adapter to determine if it is or could be using the same memory address space. If so, change the image capture video storage address region to a region that does not conflict, or change the address space of the other adapter. $ D12 Not enough memory available to accomplish action requested There is not enough memory to complete the operation. $ D13 Image capture device driver not found, check CONFIG.SYS file In order to capture images in OS/2, you must have the image capture device driver installed (it is not used in DOS). The device driver program must be on your system, and the CONFIG.SYS file must have a statement of the form: DEVICE= (path) ICDR.SYS Edit CONFIG.SYS to include the statement and reboot your system. Watch for any error messages concerning the device driver during system startup. If the path information is incorrect, the system will not be able to find the device driver and it will not be installed. $ D14 Warning: input signal appears to be poor The input device to the PS/2 Image/Capture adapter is having trouble synchronizing with the signal generated by the attached device. Check the cable connections from the input device to the adapter. If your device is a VCR, it may be generating a poor synchroniza- tion signal while in "still frame" mode. If it has a manual adjustment for "still frame" mode, you may be able to improve the signal with the adjustment. $ D15 Warning: Horizontal centering is at an extreme. Usually adjusting the horizontal lock position to an extreme will cause the image color to be incorrect or the input signal of the devices attached to the PS/2 Image/Capture adapter will not be synchronized with the timing on the adapter. However, some devices may require such an extreme setting. Using the View, 75% function will allow you to adjust the horizontal lock position by using the left and right movement keys or by moving the mouse. $ D16 Image capture adapter not installed An image capture adapter is required to digitize images but an adapter is not installed or the system has disabled it. If there is no adapter, install a supported image capture adapter. See "System Requirements" for information on the adapters required to digitize images. If an adapter has been installed, insert your Reference diskette in drive A and restart your system. Then select "View configuration" to see if the adapter has been recognized. If the adapter does not appear, then review instructions on installing the image capture adapter. If it does appear, then select "Test computer". This selection will test your computer including the capture adapter. $ D17 Cannot load file IATRAN.DLL or IVTRAN.DLL xxxx The file is not in directory SYSTEM.!AV, or it has been damaged. Reinstall this file. The number following the message gives further information: 1021 -- File cannot be found or cannot be opened 1022, 1023, 1024, 1025 -- File is damaged 1026, 1081 -- Insufficient memory to load the file It may be possible to resolve a problem of insufficient memory by eliminating some resident programs (in DOS) or by making more disk swapping space available (in OS/2). $ D18 Image capture adapter is currently in use The image capture adapter is already being used by another task. You will have to wait for the other task to release the image capture adapter, or force it to do so. $ D19 Action interrupted by ESC, any change applied remains in effect The operation in process was stopped. Some changes may have already been made. $ D20 Action cancelled by ESC, any change applied has been undone The operation in process was stopped. No changes took effect. $ D28 File not found or has an invalid form The file requested does not exist. Check the spelling of the name and try again, or ask for a different file. If you are sure that the name is correct, then the problem is that the file is not being recognized. Either it is not an AVC file or the file data has been damaged in some way. $ D29 Action cancelled You started an operation and then cancelled it. The message merely confirms that fact. $ D32 Action cancelled by ESC; image not saved The operation has been cancelled. The digitized image has not been written to the file. $ D80 As saving proceeds: either wait, ALT V next view, or ESC cancels The image is being color mapped and will be saved on disk. This may take a few moments. During this time you may set up to capture the next image by using ALT V. If you want to cancel the save of the current image, press Escape. $ D81 Press ENTER to return to the view of the image being saved To look back at the image being saved, press Enter. $ D83 ENTER resumes file saving in progress, ESC deletes file from disk You have stopped the save that was in process, but the newly mapped image has been partly written to disk on top of your original. If you cancel now, you will lose both the mapped version and the original. Press Enter to continue the save. The original will be replaced by the mapped image. Press Escape to stop the save and delete the image altogether. $ D84 Latest change has been UNDONE The last change made has been undone. The image is restored to the way it was before you made the change. If you select UNDO again at this point, your change will return. $ D85 ENTER exits WITHOUT SAVING, else ESC resumes You are about to exit without saving the changes to this image file. If you want to exit anyway, press Enter. If you want to resume editing, press Escape. $ D86 Latest target box change has been UNDONE The target box is restored to its previous position. $ D87 Automatic adjustment of contrast and brightness is in progress Contrast and brightness are being adjusted. This may take a moment. $ D88 This action will not be undoable: ENTER proceeds, ESC cancels The area of the screen you are about to change is too large to save to permit you to undo your change afterwards. Make sure you want to make the change, and if so press Enter to proceed. Press Escape to cancel the operation. $ D89 Automatic adjustment completed Contrast and brightness have now been adjusted. You may continue. $ D90 BLEND COLOR cancelled, prior blend color remains in effect You cancelled the blend color selection. The previous blend color is still in effect. $ D91 New blend color assigned The last color on the screen is now the blend color. $ D92 Move/size elastic box by cursoring and tab You can reposition or change the size of the box by tabbing or moving the cursor. Use the cursor or move the mouse to shrink or expand, or to reposition the box. Use the tab key or mouse button to switch between the two functions. $ D93 Automatic horizontal centering is in progress Horizontal centering is being determined. This may take a moment. $ D94 Horizontal centering completed Horizontal centering is complete. You may continue. $ D95 Undo target position The target box is restored to its previous position. $ D999 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ F00 File not found The file does not exist or the drive specified is not valid. Check the spelling of the name and try again, or ask for a different file. $ F01 File access currently denied The file is not available. Either it is currently in use by someone else, or it has been marked as a read-only file. If the file is a read-only file, make a copy under a different name and use that copy or have the owner change the file's protection status. $ F02 Too many files open This file cannot be accessed because the number of files now in use has already reached the limit. If this situation recurs, change your CONFIG.SYS file to permit more files to be open. $ F03 File is in use The file is currently in use by someone else. Try again later. $ F04 Error on file read/write There is a problem with the disk, the diskette drive, or the printer. You may be trying to write to a read-only disk or diskette. Correct the problem and try again. $ F06 File is protected The file requested cannot be accessed. You may need to have the owner change the file's protection status or give you a copy of the file under a different name for you to work with. $ F07 Too many referenced applications The application table for this story contains too many application references to be held in memory. A reference is an "Applic" type entry in the application table or an entry in the "Reference" column for an individual file. Since you can refer to images and audio from referenced applications, AVA keeps an internal list of all their names. Each call to a story adds to the list for each different reference name in the application table, even for a story in the same application, and the names are removed when the called story ends. The capacity of the list depends on the length of the names, but a total of about 40 names is typical. Review the application tables for the stories involved and eliminate any references that are not needed to run the stories. If this does not solve the problem, you will need to copy files from the referenced application into the story's application to eliminate the need for a reference. $ F08 Not a valid AVC file name The file cannot be read. The problem may be due to any of these situations: - The file is new, and the name given has invalid characters (check your system documentation for rules on file names). - The file is new, and the name exceeds the maximum length supported by the system (check your system documentation for rules on file names). - The name is already in use as the name of a directory. - The file is not an AVC file. - The file's data has been damaged. $ F09 File exists: change name or ESC There is another file with the name chosen. Either use a different name or cancel the operation. $ F17 Not enough memory There is not enough memory to read the file. $ F18 File not saved - no space on device Your disk is full. $ F21 Too many files in use This file cannot be accessed because the number of files now in use has already reached the limit supported by the AVC. $ F22 File is not of the type requested The file contents don't match the type implied by the file's extension. Check the name and type and try again, or ask for a different file. $ F33 I/O error on file seek There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. $ F34 I/O error on file read The file cannot be read. Either there is a problem with the disk or diskette drive or the file's data has been damaged. Correct the problem and try again. $ F35 I/O error on file write The file cannot be written. There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. You may have to delete the file if it was partially written. $ F37 File extension and type mismatch The file extension in the file name does not match the type specified. Check the name and type and try again, or ask for a different file. $ F39 Drive not ready or drive invalid There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. $ F90 List was not updated Because the application list is marked as read-only, it could not be updated to reflect the change you just made, although the change itself did take effect. $ F99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ I00 Copy buffer is being resized You selected the "resize" function. The content of the copy buffer is being resized to the requested area. The result will be displayed at the current cursor position. $ I01 Relative field may not be sized This field is defined as having relative text spacing. For a relative field, the left and right margins are established on the text spacing screen and the field's width cannot be adjusted with the "move field" function. If you want to adjust the field's width, either change the definition from relative to absolute (change REL to ABS on the text spacing screen) or choose a style that is already defined as absolute and change the field to that style. $ I02 ENTER exits without save, else ESC You are about to exit without saving the changes to this image file. If you want to exit anyway, press Enter. If you want to resume editing, press Escape. $ I05 xxxxxxxxxxx mode xxxx does not exist The picture or default mode shown is not supported by the system. If the message shows an invalid default mode, correct the problem by changing the default image mode in the configuration file. If the message shows an invalid picture mode, the image you are trying to access cannot be processed by the AVC. The number in the message is the invalid mode number in hexadecimal. $ I06 Copy buffer is currently empty You selected a function which operates on the contents of the copy buffer but nothing has been "copied" into the copy buffer. You must define the area to be operated on before the function is invoked. To define the area to operate on, use either the "copy" function or the "get and copy" function. $ I07 Text is being rewritten All text fields are being rewritten on the screen. You either selected the "write all fields" function or changed the definition of one or more of the text styles. This message displays while the text rewrite is not visible on the screen. $ I08 Incorrect AVA syntax You have specified an AVA field name which does not conform to the system file name conventions. Check your system documentation for rules on file names, correct the problem, and try again. $ I09 Copy buffer is being rotated You selected the "rotate" function. The content of the copy buffer is being rotated by the requested amount. The result will be displayed at the current cursor position. $ I11 xxxxxxxxxxx mode xxxx is not active The picture or default mode shown is not available on this system. Verify your system configuration to make sure it contains the hardware necessary to support this mode. If the message shows an invalid default mode, you may correct the problem by editing your AVC profile and changing the default image mode. If the message shows an invalid picture mode, the image you are trying to access cannot be processed on this system. The number in the message is the mode number in hexadecimal. If the mode number is 8514, the problem may be: - the 8514/A adapter card is not installed in the proper video slot - the card doesn't have enough memory (all sockets must be populated) - memory chips are upside down (notches should face the same direction) - J5 pins not connected (jumper must connect pins nearest edge of card) - if in DOS, program HDILOAD not started (run it before starting AVC) - if in OS/2, HDILOAD.DLL not found (check LIBPATH in CONFIG.SYS) $ I12 Copy buffer is being mirrored You selected the "mirror" function. The content of the copy buffer is being mirrored in the requested direction. The result will be displayed at the current cursor position. $ I14 Finding colors in the fixed/std map The map in the copy buffer is different from the fixed/standard map for the image being edited. Therefore, the colors in the copy buffer are being changed to fixed/standard colors from the map for the image being edited. $ I15 Merging the color maps You selected an image to "get and copy" and defined the area to be copied. As part of the copy operation, the color maps for the custom image being edited and the image selected are being combined. $ I16 Reducing the image colors to xxxx You are saving an image whose color map was previously merged during a "get and copy" operation. Now, the number of custom colors in the map is being reduced to the appropriate number of colors. The number of target custom colors is shown in the message. $ I17 Undo buffer has different color map The color map for the image in the undo buffer is different from the color map for the image being edited. You can terminate the "paste" function by pressing Escape and then try the "undo" function again. $ I18 Press ENTER to begin selections You selected the "set alter color" function. To make your first color selection for the from/to color at the cursor location, press Enter. Otherwise, move the cursor to the appropriate from/to position, and press Enter to select the color desired. When the from/to color is not defined (i.e., there is a dot in the middle of the field), the from/to color defaults to the current draw color. If you want to terminate the operation, press Escape at any time. When you finish making your from/to color selections, move the cursor to Exit and press Enter. To clear all the selections made, move the cursor to Clear and press Enter. $ I21 Copy is different mode You selected an image for the "get and copy" function which is in a different mode than the image you are editing. The image for "get and copy" must be in the same mode as the image being edited. Select another image and try again. $ I22 Get of the palette complete You selected a different palette to use with the image that you are editing. The new palette's color map is now the color map for the image being edited. Any colors in the image which are not defined in the new color map may be changed. This could result in some undesirable color changes. $ I23 Determining area to fill You selected the "fill" function. The system is determining the area to fill by comparing consecutive pel color values starting from the current cursor position with the value at the cursor position until a mismatch is found. This process is repeated until a "closed" shape is defined or the image border is reached. The "closed" shape of pels with the same color as the cursor position defines the area that will be filled. After the area is determined, its contents are changed based on the option you selected: draw color, transparent color, contents of the copy buffer, or pattern using the contents of the copy buffer. $ I25 xxxxxxxx kilobytes available memory This message shows the number of kilobytes of memory available at this time. This number does not include any LIM memory on the system. $ I26 Define area to be copied You selected an image for the "get and copy" function. If you want to define the area to copy, press Enter. If you would like to cancel the function, press Escape or select the "undo" function. $ I27 Cursor is not in a text field You selected a function which operates on a text field but the cursor is not on a valid text field. The function was cancelled. Move the cursor to a valid text field and try again. $ I28 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx saved The image has been saved in a file with the given name. $ I29 x:xxx y:yyy @x:xxx @y:yyy This message displays the current cursor location. As you move the cursor on the screen, the "x", "y", change in "x", and change in "y" values are updated accordingly. Each pel move is represented by an increment in the values shown. The origin for the "delta x" and "delta y" values is set to the cursor location the last time you pressed Enter. $ I30 Undo currently not available The undo buffer is empty. There is no function to undo or not enough memory to complete the undo function. $ I31 No literal fields to convert You selected the "convert text to image" function but there are no literal fields on the image. Therefore, the function terminated without any changes to the image. $ I32 ENTER discards map change, else ESC After changing the color map, you pressed Escape to indicate that the changes should be discarded. Press Enter or mouse button 1 to confirm that this is what you want to do. Your changes will be discarded and the function ended. To keep the changes and continue the function, press Escape. $ I33 Maximum limit of fields reached The total number of text fields plus triggers on the image has reached the maximum limit supported by the system. You cannot add any text fields or triggers until their total number is reduced. $ I35 Text converted to image You selected the "convert text to image" function. All existing text fields have been merged into the image plane. These are no longer considered valid text fields. $ I36 Palette xxxxxxxxxxxxx not found The palette with the given file name was not found. The system is using the appropriate default palette instead. Correct the error and try again. $ I37 ENTER converts literals, else ESC You selected the "convert text to image" function. If you want all existing literal fields to be merged with the image plane, press Enter. These fields would no longer be valid text fields. If you want to terminate this function without any changes to the image, press Escape. $ I38 Color xxx is not in the color map The color pointed to by the cursor is not defined in the image's palette. You may have done a "get palette" function and selected a palette which does not have this color defined. $ I42 Normal style now active You selected the normal style mode for writing text characters. Use the cursor movement keys to change the hue, intensity, and saturation values until you get the desired target color. If you want to terminate this function at any time, press Escape. When you have finished mixing the AA color, press Enter to keep the new color. $ I79 Mix color You selected the "mix art or image color" function. Use the cursor movement keys to change the hue, intensity, and saturation values until you get the desired target color. If you want to terminate this function at any time, press Escape. When you have finished mixing the color, press Enter to keep the new color. $ I81 Color map is too small for this action Only two colors are defined in the map. You are not allowed to mix a target AA color or to change the color map attributes. The function was terminated. $ I82 Copy has been saved The area you defined has been copied into the copy buffer. If you want to paste the area on the image being edited, move the cursor to the destination and press Enter. $ I83 Color is xxx The number shown is the number of the color at the cursor. $ I84 Only image plane active You are viewing only the image plane. If it is blank, it means that no image plane is defined yet. $ I85 Only text plane active You are viewing only the text plane. If it is blank, it means that no text fields are defined yet. $ I86 Both text and image planes active You are viewing both the image and the text planes. $ I87 Image plane must be active You selected the "view both image and text planes" function. There is not enough memory available at this time to display the image plane. Therefore, the screen remains unchanged with only the text plane displayed. $ I88 Text plane must be active There is not enough memory available at this time to display the text plane. Therefore, the screen remains unchanged with only the image plane displayed. $ I89 Determining fill outline You selected the "fill to outline" function. The system is looking for a closed "shape" drawn in the draw color. The search for this outline starts by comparing consecutive pel color values starting from the current cursor position with the value of the draw color until a match is found. This process is repeated until the "closed" shape is defined or the image border is reached. The "closed" shape of pels with the same color as the draw color defines the area that will be filled. After the area is determined, its contents is changed based on the option you selected: draw color, transparent color, contents of the copy buffer, or pattern using the contents of the copy buffer. $ I90 No color changes specified You selected the "alter color" but no color changes were specified via the "set alter color" function. To correct the problem, set the from/to colors to alter and try again. $ I91 Text style changed You have changed one of the text style definitions. This will be the default text style used the next time a text field is added. Also, all existing text fields using the text style which was changed are rewritten on the screen. $ I94 Text spacing changed You have changed the text spacing definition for one of the text styles. $ I95 Use digits with optional "A" prefix You have specified an invalid value a color. Either select one of the rotate choices, or enter the digits for a custom or art color which is defined in the palette. To specify an art color, precede its number with an "A". $ I96 Color specified is not in palette You have specifed a number for a color which is not defined in the image's palette. To interactively select a color from the color table, press F4. Correct the problem and try again. $ I97 "A" prefix not allowed with color 0 You have specifed an invalid color number. When specifying color 0, the transparency color, the "A" prefix which identifies an art color is not allowed. Eliminate the "A" prefix and try again. $ I98 Art color specified not in palette You have specifed a number for a color which is defined in the image's color map but it is not in its range of valid art colors. To interactively select a color from the color table, press F4. Correct the problem and try again. $ I99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ I100 Valid entry: Yes, No You have entered an invalid value in the field highlighted in red. "Yes" and "No" are the only valid entries. If you would like to terminate this function without making any changes, press Escape. Otherwise, correct the error and try again. $ I101 Press F4 to set via color table To select the color for the field the cursor is on by using the color table, press F4. You may also enter the color number if you already know it. To specify an art color, prefix its number with an "A". $ I102 Valid entry: Abs, Rel You have entered an invalid value in the text spacing position field. Valid entries for this field are "Abs" for absolute and "Rel" for relative. RELATIVE: Field spacing of fields in this style is defined by the margin and field spacing information in the text spacing definition. ABSOLUTE: Field spacing information is ignored and the fields are positioned wherever the cursor is located as long as it is within the specified margins. Correct the problem and try again. $ I103 Non APA text mode xxx not supported The mode shown is not supported by the AVC. Exit the AVC. Type "mode co80" on the command line to change the text mode. Then start the AVC again. $ I104 Not all from-to colors were paired You selected the "alter color" function but at least one of the from/to color pairs had only one of the two colors specified. The color pairs which had both colors specified were processed by the "alter color" function and the incomplete pairs were ignored. To correct the problem, complete the from/to color pairs via the "set alter color" function and try again. $ I105 No default text, existing scaled The image didn't have any text spacing or styles defined. The spacing and styles used with the previous image (or your default palette if no previous image) have been applied to this one. They may have been adjusted if the image types are different. Use the Palette menu to check the definitions and make any changes needed. Or get a different palette to replace these definitions. $ I106 Palette/image intensities mismatch You selected a palette for the "get palette" function. The number of intensities in the palette is different from the number in the target image. The "get palette" function was completed but you may notice some undesirable color changes. $ I107 Art colors did not fit color map You selected a palette for the "get palette" function. The number of art colors in the palette times their intensities exceeds the number of colors in the target map or the map entries for the art colors collide with the target custom colors. The "get palette" function was completed but you may notice some undesirable color changes. $ I108 Default palette xxxxxxxx not found The default palette with the given file name was not found. You cannot edit an image without this palette file. The palette requested corresponds to the default image mode specified in the configuration file. To correct the problem, change the default image mode by editing the configuration file or make sure that the default palette given is correctly specified in the list of palettes. $ I109 No read access def. pal. xxxxxxxx The default palette specified is currently in use by someone else. Try again later. $ I110 Gun value is out of range One of the RGB gun value fields specified is outside the valid range for this image's mode. The range for the gun values is determined by the number of bits per pel in the image mode. For example, if one pel is defined by 8 bits, then the valid gun value range is 0 to 255. Similarly, if one pel is defined by 6 bits, the gun value range is 0 to 63. Correct the problem and try again. $ I111 Hue range is 0 to 360 You have specified an invalid hue value when setting a color's numeric code. The valid hue range is 0 to 360. Correct the problem and try again. $ I112 Intensity range is 0 to 100 You have specified an invalid intensity value when setting a color's numeric code. The valid intensity range is 0 to 100. Correct the problem and try again. $ I113 Saturation range is 0 to 100 You have specified an invalid saturation value when setting a color's numeric code. The valid saturation range is 0 to 100. Correct the problem and try again. $ I114 Valid entry: Cus, Fix, Std You have specified an invalid value for color map type field. This field can be one of the following types: Custom (Cus), Fixed (Fix), or Standard (Std). CUSTOM: When using this image as a palette, use its art colors as the target art colors and define a new color map with the same number of custom colors as this color map. FIXED: When using this image as a palette, define the target colors using the ones in this map. STANDARD: When using this image as a palette, the target colors are defined by the fast mapping algorithm. Correct the problem and try again. $ I115 Saturation must be >0 if hue not -1 While setting the numeric color code for a color, you set the saturation value to 0 but the hue is not set to -1. The only time the saturation can be 0 is when the hue is -1. Correct the problem and try again. $ I116 Left margin exceeds right margin The left margin offset overlaps the value of the right margin offset. This means that the offset of the first character in the text field is greater than the offset for the last character allowed in the field. Correct the problem by changing the values of the left and/or right margins for this text style and try again. $ I117 No default font files found The font indicated for text is not in the SYSTEM.!AV directory nor are any of the other AVC font files. Reinstall the AVC. $ I118 No font xxxxxxxx ... using xxxxxxxx The first font specified was needed for one or more of the existing text fields but it was not found in the system directory. Instead, the second font specified is being used. $ I119 No read access for font xxxxxxxxx The font file specified has been set to a protected status and may not be used. $ I161 No more space for text The field is close to the screen edge, and there is no more room for text characters. It may be that the font was changed to a larger size. Use ALT+J to move the field away from the edge. With the cursor at the end of the field, press the delete key repeatedly until the message "No character to delete" appears. Then type the remaining characters. $ I163 No room for additional characters The total number of characters in text fields has reached the maximum limit supported by the system. You cannot add any characters until their total number is reduced. $ I164 ESC pressed, text write unfinished You pressed Escape while the text fields were being rewritten. The function was terminated. $ I170 No character to delete You have tried to delete a character but there are no characters left in the field. $ I200 Image saved but not added to list Because the application list is marked as read-only, it could not be updated to reflect the fact that the image was saved. The image itself was saved, however. $ I300 Set airbrush size You selected the "set brush" function. Move the cursor to adjust the size of the airbrush. $ I303 No text exists You selected the text plane as the source for airbrushing, but there is no text. Select the background plane instead. $ I304 ENTER deletes ALL TRIGGERS, else ESC You are about to delete all triggers on this image. Press Enter or mouse button 1 to confirm that this is what you want to do. To keep the triggers, press Escape. $ I305 No trigger fields to delete You have selected the function to delete all triggers, but the image has none. No change was made to the picture. $ I306 All trigger fields deleted Triggers have now been deleted from the picture. $ I307 Sketch Draw mode You are now in sketch mode. Move the cursor or use the mouse for freehand drawing. You can end sketch mode by pressing Enter or mouse button 1. You can toggle to sketch-erase mode by pressing Tab. $ I308 Sketch Erase mode You are now in sketch mode for erasing. Move the cursor or use the mouse as an eraser. You can end sketch mode by pressing Enter or mouse button 1. You can toggle to sketch-draw mode by pressing Tab. $ I309 Undo plane is different mode The undo plane is not the same video resolution and cannot be used for airbrushing. $ I310 Airbrush with Undo plane The undo plane is now being used for airbrushing. You will see an effect only in the part of the image that was most recently changed. $ I311 Press TAB to toggle airbrush on/off To turn the airbrush on, press TAB or the right mouse button. You can use TAB or the button to toggle the brush on and off. $ I312 Must escape zoom to set brush size Zoom is active, and you cannot set the airbrush size while the picture has been zoomed. Use ESC to exit zoom and then set the size. $ I313 Zoom not allowed setting airbrush While in the process of setting airbrush size, you selected zoom. The selection of zoom was ignored. $ I314 Color map type changed to `Custom' You have enhanced the colors in an image which had a standard or a fixed color map. Since colors were changed, the map is now marked as being a custom map. $ I315 Video option not available Motion video is not functional on your system. Your operating system must be OS/2 Version 1.2 or later, and you need appropriate statements in your CONFIG.SYS file. Motion video is not supported in DOS nor in earlier versions of OS/2. Check that your CONFIG.SYS file is correct. Assuming that your M-Motion device drivers are in the MMEDIA directory on drive C and that the support modules are in MMEDIA\DLL, your CONFIG.SYS file needs: - reference to MMEDIA\DLL in the LIBPATH statement - DEVICE statements to load MMOTION.SYS and MMVAINIT.SYS - the statement SET MMEDIA=C:\MMEDIA $ I401 ESC pressed, xxxxxxxxxx incomplete You pressed Escape while the given function was executing. The function was terminated. $ I901 Not enough memory There is not enough memory to complete the operation. $ I902 No files found using default list The fonts or palettes could not be found. Some files on your system have been damaged or deleted. Reinstall the AVC. $ I903 No memory, using default list There is not enough memory to provide an actual selection list. A default list is being used instead. Exit the AVC and check for available memory on your system. Unless more memory is available, the AVC will have most functions crippled. $ I932 File is not an image file The file selected is not a valid AVC image file. Either the file was renamed to an image file but it does not contain valid image data or the file data has been corrupted. $ I959 Help not available Unable to run HELP. Either there is not enough memory to run HELP or the help subsystem was not found. $ L01 Invalid file type The file type field contains an invalid value. The valid file types are shown on the prompt pulldown from the action bar or by rotating through the valid choices by using one of the rotate keys. Correct the error and try again. $ L02 Not enough memory There is not enough memory to complete the operation. If you are in OS/2, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure it permits swapping and that SWAPPATH= provides adequate free space. Also check the swap file drive to make sure it has 512K free. Some programs, such as PRINT, become resident the first time you run them, and you may need to reboot to eliminate such a program. $ L03 Invalid directory: xxxxxxxx The directory name could not be found. Check the drive and directory name for a problem and try again. $ L04 File name must be specified A file name must be specified to complete the operation. Enter a file name and try again. $ L05 Invalid drive: xx There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. $ L06 File extension does not match file type The file extension in the file name does not match the type specified. Check the name and type and try again, or ask for a different file. $ L08 ENTER will delete all files in directory: xxxxxxxx Your request will delete all files in the directory. Once deleted, they can no longer be retrieved. If you want to go ahead with the operation, press Enter. To cancel, press ESC. $ L09 Function not valid in select mode The requested function cannot be performed from the selection mode. Return to the application table editing mode and try again. $ L10 Select file of one of these types: xxxxxx You must select a file with one of the displayed types. The file can either exist or not. The file name selected will be returned to the calling editor. $ L11 Select existing file of one of these types: xxxxxx You must select an existing file with one of the displayed types. The file must already exist. The file name selected will be returned to the calling editor. $ L13 Rotate not valid for field Rotate choices are not defined for this field. You should type in the value you want. $ L14 Move cursor to destination line You have marked a block of lines for the "move" function. These lines will be deleted from their current position and inserted in a new location on the list. Move the cursor to the destination line and press Enter to complete the function. Press Escape to cancel the "move" function. $ L15 ENTER (else ESC) truncates file name to: xxxxxxxx The file name specified exceeds the maximum length allowed by the operating system. If you want the file name truncated to the name shown in the message, press Enter. If you want the file name left as entered, press Escape and the list line will change to a comment and the function will be cancelled. $ L17 Provide directory: xxxxxxxx The directory indicated in not online. Mount the diskette with this directory and press Enter to continue. $ L18 File not found: xxxxxxxx The file requested does not exist. Check the spelling of the drive, the application/directory and the name, and try again or ask for a different file. $ L21 Maximum search path size exceeded The total length of all unique reference path names in the list is more than 325 characters. Go through the list and delete the names of any unused referenced objects and then save the list again. If the message is still being issued, it will be necessary to copy some objects from the referenced application into this one, eliminating the need for a reference. $ L23 List too big The list is already as long as possible. You can free some space in the list by deleting unnecessary reference lines or comments. $ L26 Provide application: xxxxxxxx The application cannot be found in the drive specified. Correct the problem and try again. $ L27 Invalid application path The application directory specified is not a directory on the drive's root. All applications must be directories on the root. The function requested was cancelled. $ L28 ENTER creates new application, else ESC to cancel The application does not exist in the drive specified. You may have misspelled the application name or drive, or you may need to mount the correct diskette. If you want to create the application as specified, press Enter. If you want to cancel this function, press Escape. $ L29 ENTER renames file, else ESC to cancel You have changed the name of a file which exists in this application. If you want the file renamed, press Enter. If you want to restore the original file name and cancel the rename, press Escape. $ L30 Error renaming file (may be duplicate) The file cannot be renamed. One or more of the following conditions could cause this problem: - New name already exists. - New name has invalid characters (check your system documentation for rules on file names). - New name could not be created because of an invalid path. - New name specifies a different drive from the old name. - Old file does not exist. - Old file is a read-only file. Correct the error and try again. $ L31 Error deleting file (may be in use) The file cannot be deleted. One or more of the following conditions could cause this problem: - File does not exist. - Name is actually a directory. - File is a read-only file. - File is currently in use by someone else. If possible, correct the error and try again, or try again later. $ L32 Number of files deleted of total requested: xx out of yy As a result of your delete, lines have been deleted from the list, and when the lines referred to actual files in the application (that is, not files in a referenced application), the files have been deleted. The "xx" in the message refers to the files deleted, the "yy" to the files identified in the lines deleted. $ L33 Rename cancelled by ESC You cancelled a "rename" function. The file's name was not changed. $ L34 ENTER deletes file, else ESC to cancel The block of lines you have marked for deletion include one or more files that are actually in your application. When you delete these lines from your list, those files will be deleted from your disk. Once you complete the delete operation, those files cannot be recovered. If you are deleting a reference to an application from your library table, the copy of the application file in your library directory will be deleted. To complete the delete, press Enter. Press Escape to cancel. $ L35 No match found No list lines found that match the search criteria specified. $ L36 Match found, press ENTER to search further or ESC to stop List line found that matches the search criteria specified. If you want to continue the search, press Enter. If you want to cancel the search, press Escape. $ L37 HELP not available Unable to run HELP. Either there is not enough memory to run HELP or the help subsystem was not found. $ L38 Press ENTER when cursor reaches end of block Move the cursor to the last line you want and then press Enter. This will complete this step. If you only want one line, press Enter on that line. $ L39 Must complete block edit in process, or ESC to cancel You are in the process of marking a block for a previously invoked function. This function is not available until you complete the block mark or press Escape to cancel the in progress function. $ L40 Function cancelled by ESC You have cancelled an in-process function. $ L41 Directory removed The application directory was removed from the system. The reference to the application can be deleted from your library list by using the "delete lines" function. $ L42 Directory cannot be removed The application directory cannot be removed. The directory still contains files or someone else is using the directory at this time. Correct the problem and try again or try again later. $ L43 Creating new application xxxxxxxx The application directory is being created. $ L44 Cannot create application xxxxxxxx Unable to create the application directory. The given directory is the name of an existing file or directory. Correct the problem and try again. $ L45 Copy in process ... A file copy is in progress. It may take a few moments. $ L46 ENTER stops copy, else Esc to resume If you want to stop the file copy after the current file copy is completed, press Enter. To continue the copy, press Escape. $ L47 Copy stopped, xx files copied You pressed Enter to terminate a "copy" operation. The message shows the number of files successfully copied. $ L48 Copy in process, xx files copied so far A file copy is in progress. The number of files successfully copied is updated as each file is copied. $ L49 Copy done, xx files copied, xx files not copied The "copy" operation has completed. The message shows the number of files successfully copied and the number of files that were not copied. Some files may not have been copied due to any of these situations: - The line was a comment. - The line was for a referenced file and the owning application was not available. - The target file is read-only and could not be accessed. - The file was not found. - There was no room on the device to finish copying all the files. $ L50 Copy done, xx files copied The "copy" operation has completed. The message shows the number of files successfully copied. It is the same as the number of lines in the marked block. $ L51 File exists: change name or ESC There is another file with the name chosen. Either use a different name or cancel the operation. $ L52 Path not found The given path does not exist in the specified drive. Correct the problem and try again. It may be that the path is not the name of a directory, but the name of a file. $ L53 PRINTER error There is a problem with the printer. Correct the problem and try again. $ L54 Print in process, press ENTER to pause or ESC to stop Your print request was started. If you need to stop it momentarily, press Enter. To cancel, press Escape. $ L55 Print stopped by ESC You pressed Escape to cancel a "print" function. $ L56 ENTER (else ESC) deletes all files in application The directory being removed contains files. If you want all files in the directory deleted before the directory is removed, press Enter. Once you complete the "remove directory" operation, those files cannot be recovered. If you want to cancel the operation, press Escape. $ L57 Duplicate list lines not allowed You have added a line which is a duplicate of another line in the list. You cannot have the same file on two lines in an application. The line has been restored with its original contents. $ L58 Error running requested program An error occurred while running the requested program. Either the program was not found or there was not enough memory available for the program to run. $ L59 Press any key to return to AVC Requested program completed execution. Press a key to return to AVC operation. $ L60 List cannot grow You are trying to move the cursor beyond the end of the list. If your list is on a read-only drive or marked as a read-only file, the operating system will not permit it to be changed. Moving the cursor beyond the end of the list has the effect of adding blank lines at the end, which would be a change. It may be that you are in the middle of moving lines in a read-write list. If so, you need to place them ahead of an existing line. Use CTL+End to determine what the last existing line is. You cannot put the moved lines after that line. To move lines to the bottom of the list, first go to the end of the list and cursor down one line to create a blank line. Then move the lines to the end. $ L61 One moment, please... Internal processing is taking place. You must wait for it to finish. $ L62 Print at pause, press any key to resume or ESC to stop You requested that printing stop momentarily. Press a key to continue printing. Press Escape to cancel the rest of the printout. $ L63 Number of files added to end of list: xx The application directory had files that were not in the list. They have been added at the end. $ L64 Function not valid for file type The function doesn't apply to this particular line on the list. For example, you can search a library, application, or a DOS directory, but not a file. If you are trying to search within this particular list, use the "find next context" function (ALT+F). $ L65 Directory empty The directory you selected contains no files. $ L66 Cannot write to read only file The application list you are trying to update is either on a read-only drive or marked as a read-only file. The operating system will not permit it to be changed. $ L67 Function not available to read only application The application list you are working with is either on a read-only drive or marked as a read-only file. As a result, you can only browse through the list, scan, or copy single files. You may not add, delete, move, or change any lines, mark blocks, or view a reference (which would add lines to the list). $ L68 Nothing to Copy You are attempting to paste some lines, but they were not first cut or they have been discarded. Cut the lines you want and then repeat the function. $ L69 Disk full, xx files copied There was not enough room on the disk or diskette to copy all the files you indicated. The message indicates how many were actually copied. $ L70 Number of files converted of total requested: xx out of yy The message shows the number of MIDI files converted to audio files. Your original files are unchanged. If a file was not converted, it could be for any of these reasons: - The MIDI file was not found. - An audio file of the same name already exists (you should either delete the audio file or rename the MIDI file). - Your disk is full. $ L99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ R01 Story stopped by ESC Story stopped by ESC -- audio "A" = xx.x Story stopped by ESC -- audio "A" = xx.x audio "B" = xx.x Story execution has stopped because the Escape key was pressed. If audio was playing, the message also shows the elapsed audio time at the point of interruption in seconds and tenths. If two tracks were playing, both times are shown. Absolute audio time can be used instead of a label on a WAIT, and you can use ESC to determine what that absolute time is when you are synchronizing a story. $ R02 BREAK POINT reached Story execution has been stopped because the current story line is marked as a break point. If stopping at this point is no longer desired, remove the break point mark and start the story again. $ R03 Story changed, save and continue run or quit without saving This story is about to end, but the changes made to it have not yet been saved. To save the changes, press ALT+F4. To disregard the changes and leave the story in its original form, press F3. After exiting the story, press ALT+T to continue the "tell". $ R06 Intermediate buffer space exceeded The intermediate buffer for evaluating variables on the current story line is not big enough for the variables involved at this point in the story. You will need to make some simplifications in the story to get around the problem. The buffer holds intermediate values of expressions being evaluated, parse templates, and evaluated arguments being passed to a called function, procedure, or story. It may be that the total length of all the arguments being passed is too large even though individually they are 255 bytes or less. If this is the case, you may need to use exposed variables or common knowledge instead of passing arguments. When a story line calls a function or procedure, that line's evaluation remains pending while the called procedure executes, leaving somewhat less space in the intermediate buffer. Too deep a calling nest may be causing the problem. $ R07 Not enough memory -- symbols There is not enough memory available to create required internal symbol tables. The message applies to DOS main memory space, which is used for symbols (i.e., variables and labels) and some parts of stories, audio, pictures, text, and triggers. The main contributors to the memory demand are: - calls from large stories to other large stories - screens with a large number of triggers and text fields all shown at the same time - lengthy audio - large numbers of variables with long names and lengthy values Restructure your story to cut its size (or make more memory available). This will also improve the story's performance. $ R08 Not enough memory -- procedure There is not enough memory available to create the required internal dictionary associated with the procedure/function call. $ R09 Too many nested calls The structure of the story has caused the maximum nest level to been reached. Each time a CALL statement is used a new nest level is created and exists until the return from the called routine. Subsequent use of a CALL statement from within the called routine causes yet another nest level to be created, and so on. Change the structure of the story so that calls within calls occur less frequently. $ R10 Too many files open This file cannot be accessed because the number of files now in use has already reached the limit. If this situation recurs, change your CONFIG.SYS file to permit more files to be open. $ R11 Incomplete DO, IF, or SELECT block An END statement, which signifies the end of a DO, IF, or SELECT block, has been omitted. Add an END statement at the end of the block. $ R12 THEN missing The required THEN keyword has been omitted from the IF construct. Add the THEN keyword immediately following the first expression. $ R13 LEAVE or ITERATE outside loop LEAVE or ITERATE was encountered, but not in a DO / END loop. Make sure the statement has been placed at the proper location or delete it. $ R14 FOR variable: not a positive integer The result of the expression following the FOR keyword must be a positive whole number. Correct the expression and try it again. $ R15 DO variable: not a number The result of an expression used in the DO statement must be a number. Verify the expressions used, correct any errors, and try it again. $ R16 WHEN or OTHERWISE missing Either the required keyword WHEN or the required keyword OTHERWISE has been omitted somewhere within the SELECT block. Add the WHEN or OTHERWISE keyword at the appropriate spot. $ R17 Too many nested "DO" loops The limit for active nested DO groups is 30. Simplify the story logic to use fewer DO constructs. $ R18 SIGNAL or TELL from within "DO" block The SIGNAL or TELL verb was inside a DO / END loop. Revise the story logic to avoid this construction. $ R19 Story changed, must be saved to execute TELL When the TELL line is executed, this story will be discarded from memory. Changes have been made to it which have not yet been saved. Press ALT+F4 to save this story. Then press ALT+T to continue with the run (and execute the TELL). $ R21 Name violates HRULES The variable name does not comply with the minimum-maximum name formation rules established with the HRULES statement. Change the name so that it does comply, or change the HRULES setting. $ R22 HSEND: code must be 21-23 The value for argument 1 of the HSEND function must be one of the numbers 21, 22, or 23. $ R23 Variable name too long The expanded value of the compound variable name exceeds the maximum length of 250 positions. Use a shorter name. $ R24 Variable value too long The contents of the variable is longer than 255 positions. Use a shorter value. $ R25 Variable name expected The instruction must have a variable name at the appropriate position. It either had no name or had some other symbol at that spot. DROP: Used to discard one or more variables. The variable names are listed after the word DROP. PROCEDURE EXPOSE: Used to share one or more specific variables, and only those, with the caller. The names of the shared variables are listed after the word EXPOSE. UPPER: Used to convert the contents of one or more variables to upper case. The variable names are listed after the word UPPER. $ R26 Comma missing from argument list The arguments specified in the argument list for the function have not all been separated by commas. Ensure that a comma has been placed between each specific argument and try it again. $ R27 Unmatched parenthesis in argument list Within the argument list for the function there is an extra left or right parenthesis, indicating that a parenthesis is missing. Add the missing parenthesis and try it again. $ R28 Invalid argument or wrong number of arguments A function call may not have more than 10 arguments. If the call was for a built-in function, one of the following is the case: - A required argument is missing or evaluates to a null string. - There are too many arguments. - An argument's value does not conform to the particular requirements of the function (such as must be a number, must be positive). Check the book for the definition of the function. Then correct the line as necessary and try it again. $ R29 Invalid name or label The name does not conform to the naming rules. The only characters allowed in a name are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, #, @, !, ?, and underscore. Lowercase letters are treated as uppercase. These rules also apply: - The name may not begin with a digit - # or @ may only appear as the first character and must be followed by at least one other character Although the period is not valid in a name, it can be used to join names to express a compound name. A colon at the end of a name indicates that the name is a label. $ R30 Unable to restore "saved state" Not enough memory was available to completely restore the screen for restarting at this point in the story. $ R31 Invalid syntax The construct of the statement(s) on the line has syntax errors. Verify each statement, correct any errors, and try it again. $ R32 Invalid expression The line has at least one invalid expression. Verify the construct of all expressions specified on the line, correct any errors, and try it again. A typical cause of the problem is an arithmetic statement where some fields are not numbers. For instance: x = y + 2 is invalid if "y" doesn't hold a number. If this is the first time that "y" has been used in the story, its value is "Y", the name of the field itself. $ R33 Semicolon expected after expression A semicolon was expected as the next value to be encountered, but something else was found. If multiple statements on a line, make sure that each statement was ended with a semicolon. Correct typos, if any, and try it again. $ R34 Unexpected keyword A keyword was encountered in the statement where no keyword was expected. It may be that a variable was given a name which matched a keyword. Make sure that all applicable keywords have been placed in the proper spot, or remove the extraneous keyword from the statement. $ R35 Non-numeric value in expression The result derived from an expression does not resolve to a numeric value. Change the expression or components of the expression so that it will evaluate to a numeric value. $ R36 Logical value not 0 or 1 IF requires an expression whose value is 0 or 1. The result derived from the expression resolves to something else. Change the expression or components of the expression so that the ending result resolves to a value of 0 or 1. $ R37 Unable to load function FUNCADD specifies a linkage to an entry point in your own module, and the linkage could not be established. It may be that the module was not found or could not be loaded or that it doesn't have an entry point of the name indicated. If you indicate a specific path, only that path is searched. If you do not indicate a path, the system uses LIBPATH from your CONFIG.SYS to determine where to look for the module. The current directory or SYSTEM.!AV will not be searched unless explicitly named or listed in LIBPATH. $ R38 Function available only in OS/2 The function you selected can only be done in OS/2, not in DOS. The selection has been ignored. $ R39 File name too long The fully-qualified file name may not be longer than 25 characters, including any special characters such as the backslash or colon. If the name is resolved from a variable, check the contents of the variable to make sure it holds the intended name. Check spelling of the name. Shorten the name to fit within 25 characters. You may omit the file extension. $ R40 Too many fields/triggers For SHOW or PASTE: the screen can hold 256 triggers and update fields, and the limit has been reached. Reorganize your story to display fewer fields at the same time. For INPUT: a limit of 20 fields can be individually identified. Rearrange the image or use multiple partial images so that you can use INPUT without a need to list individual fields. $ R41 Invalid PARSE template The parsing template specified has one or more errors. Examine the template for typos or improper use of allowed components, correct the errors, and try it again. $ R42 Called story needs to be retokenized The story is downlevel. Press CTRL T to force retokenization. This new version of the story should be saved. $ R43 Divide by zero The calculation specified has values which result in an attempt to divide by zero. Dividing by zero is invalid. $ R44 Arithmetic overflow The result of a calculation exceeds the maximum value that can be handled. $ R45 LABEL defined more than once The same label (format label:) has been defined more than once within the story. Change the duplicate label to another name. $ R46 LABEL not found The story does not have the label indicated. Check the spelling of the label on this statement or of the label itself. $ R47 Invalid art color specified An art color that does not exist within the image has been specified on the COLOR statement. Change the art color in error to a valid number and try it again. $ R48 System cannot display this image You are attempting to display an image in a video mode your system doesn't support. You cannot display this image. If the image is for an 8514/A, the problem may be: - the 8514/A adapter card is not installed in the proper video slot - the card doesn't have enough memory (all sockets must be populated) - memory chips are upside down (notches should face the same direction) - J5 pins not connected (jumper must connect pins nearest edge of card) - if in DOS, program HDILOAD not started (run it before starting AVC) - if in OS/2, HDILOAD.DLL not found (check LIBPATH in CONFIG.SYS) $ R49 Alt "X" requires COLOR/CLEAR with background established You are attempting to set partial source coordinates but either the screen is in text mode or the line is not a COLOR or CLEAR statement. Change the line to a COLOR or CLEAR statement and/or change the story logic to establish an APA video mode. $ R50 Alt "Y" requires SHOW/PASTE/COLOR/CLEAR with background established You are attempting to set partial target coordinates but either the screen is in text mode or the line is not a SHOW, PASTE, COLOR, CLEAR statement. Change the line to a SHOW, PASTE, COLOR or CLEAR statement and/or change the story logic to establish an APA video mode. $ R56 Story too complex, internal storage exceeded The story has become complex enough at this point to have overrun the interpreter's internal memory buffers. All of the following contribute to complexity: - number of IF-THEN-ELSE statements being evaluated - number of TELL statements executed to this point - number of nested CALLs, including built-in functions - number of active DO loops using counters - number of terms in active arithmetic or logical expressions, and extent of expression nesting with parentheses Revise the story to make it simpler. $ R58 Unable to allocate memory There is not enough memory to continue the story. If you are in OS/2, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure it permits swapping and that SWAPPATH= provides adequate free space. Also check the swap file drive to make sure its free space is at least 512K. You may be able to cut down your story's size by avoiding: - calls from large stories to other large stories - screens with a large number of triggers and text fields all shown at the same time $ R59 Invalid use of "ON" statement The "event" identified in the ON statement must be one of: - a number in the range 0 to 511 - the reserved word KEY or TRIGGER - the name of a trigger, conforming to AVA's naming rules It may be that the trigger has been named such that is doesn't follow the naming rules. The only characters allowed in a name are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, #, @, !, ?, period, and underscore. These rules also apply: - The name may not begin with a digit or period - # or @ may only appear as the first character, must be followed by at least one other character, and may not be immediately followed by a period $ R60 Video adapter not installed If you are using SETVIDEO(), the adapter referred to by the statement is either not installed in your machine or not installed properly. If adapter is the 8514/A, the problem may be: - the adapter card is not installed in the proper video slot - the card doesn't have enough memory (all sockets must be populated) - memory chips are upside down (notches should face the same direction) - J5 pins not connected (jumper must connect pins nearest edge of card) - if in DOS, program HDILOAD not started (run it before starting AVC) - if in OS/2, HDILOAD.DLL not found (check LIBPATH in CONFIG.SYS) If you selected "Browse motion video", motion video is not functional. You must have OS/2 Version 1.2 or later, with appropriate statements in your CONFIG.SYS file. Motion video is not supported in DOS. Check your CONFIG.SYS file. It needs: - reference to MMEDIA\DLL in the LIBPATH statement - DEVICE statements MMOTION.SYS and MMVAINIT.SYS - the statement SET MMEDIA=C:\MMEDIA $ R62 No such audio label The audio label specified cannot be found in the list of valid labels for the current audio file. Make sure the label has been typed correctly or change it to one of the valid labels. $ R63 Invalid audio combination You are trying to play two audio files at the same time. One of them is stereo or MIDI, and there is a conflict. Since stereo uses both channels, no other audio can be played with it. If you need to play two sounds at once, use audio recorded at voice or music quality. MIDI can only be played by itself or with voice-quality audio. In addition, if you are playing MIDI with a voice file, you must start the MIDI first. $ R64 Audio start beyond end position The audio starting position is beyond either the boundary of the end position specified or the end of the entire audio segment. Change the start position to a lesser value and try it again. $ R65 FINIS invalid as audio start The keyword FINIS, which means end-of-audio-file, was specified as the audio starting position. Change the audio starting position to something else and try it again. $ R66 BEGIN invalid as audio end The keyword BEGIN, which means beginning-of-audio-file, was specified as the audio ending position. Change the audio ending position to something else and try it again. $ R67 Unresolvable WAIT value The value specified for the wait period does not resolve to a number or an audio sync point. If specifying an audio sync point, make sure the channel identifier is A or B, which are the only two values allowed. Otherwise, correct any typos and try it again. $ R68 MIDI must be played on channel "B" Your audio file is a MIDI file. You must use channel B for it, not channel A. $ R72 Not enough memory -- resource The system has run out of memory while trying to load a story or execute a CLEAR or COLOR statement. $ R79 File component not found You have specified TEXT for a picture that has no text or have indicated a font size that does not exist. It may be that the file name is wrong, but happens to be the same as some other file. $ R80 Cannot write to "read only" file The story you are trying to update is either on a read-only drive or marked as a read-only file. The operating system will not permit it to be changed. You can save this story as a new story on a read-write drive. Use the "create new" option to do so. $ R99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ S01 No such file You are attempting to edit the image or audio file specified on the current story line, but the name is either typed incorrectly or is an AVA variable that has not yet been assigned. Correct any typos in the name or run the line that assigns a name to the variable and try it again. $ S02 Not enough memory for HELP There is not enough memory to run the HELP system now. $ S03 ENTER exits WITHOUT SAVING, else ESC You are attempting to end the Story Editor session but the story has been modified. Press Enter to end without saving or press the Escape key to continue editing. $ S04 Line must be SHOW . . . PART You are attempting to set partial target coordinates for an image that is to be fully displayed, not partially. Set partial source coordinates first or change the size field to PART. $ S05 Story stopped by ESC Story execution has been stopped because the Escape key was pressed. $ S06 BREAK POINT set Successful completion of the request to mark the current story line as a break point. $ S07 BREAK POINT removed Successful completion of the request to remove the break point mark on the current story line. $ S08 No memory for COPY buffer There is not enough memory available to allocate the required internal buffer required for COPY. $ S09 No memory for UNDO buffer, press ESC to cancel There is not enough memory to allocate the internally required UNDO buffer. $ S10 No memory for ACTION BAR There is not enough memory to perform the internal processing required to display the ACTION BAR. $ S11 No memory to enlarge story There is not enough memory available to enlarge the story. $ S12 Nothing to COPY You are attempting to paste some text lines, but they were not first cut or they have been discarded. Cut the lines you want and then repeat the function. $ S13 Must complete block edit in process, or ESC to cancel You are attempting to start a new function, but a block edit is still currently in progress. Press ENTER to complete the block edit function or, press the Escape key to cancel the block edit function and then try your request again. $ S14 Not enough memory to enlarge TOKEN buffer There is not enough memory available to enlarge the internally required token buffer. $ S15 SHOW/COLOR/CLEAR/PASTE/PLAY must be only statement on line You have combined multiple statements on a single story line and one of them is an Audio Visual type statement. An Audio Visual type statement must be on a line by itself. Move the non-Audio Visual statement(s) to another story line. $ S16 Comment nesting error The line has an unbalanced number of end-of-comments to start-of- comments. Comments are started with the characters '/*' and end with the characters '*/'. Correct any start-of- or end-of- comments that may be transposed or add/delete as necessary to make them balanced. $ S17 Invalid character The line has a special character which is invalid. $ S18 Unbalanced quotes The line has an unbalanced number of quotation marks. Add/delete quotation marks as necessary to make them balanced. $ S19 Story cannot exceed 500 lines You are attempting to enter or copy lines that will cause the story to exceed the maximum of 500 lines. $ S20 PRINTER error The printer hardware has detected an error condition. $ S21 Press ESC to cancel printing The story is being printed. You may press the Escape key to cancel printing. $ S22 Printing stopped by ESC Printing of the story stopped because the Escape key was pressed. $ S23 Partial coordinates set The request to set partial image coordinates has been completed and the coordinates have been entered into the story. $ S24 Partial coordinates unchanged The request to set partial image coordinates has been cancelled because the Escape key was pressed. Any changes made to the coordinates have been discarded. $ S26 Token buffer improper, press CTRL T to re-tokenize An error has been detected in the internally required token buffer for the story. Press CTRL T to force retokenization. $ S27 Story retokenized, should be saved The story just loaded has just been re-tokenized because it was downlevel. This new version of the story should be saved. $ S28 Story saved The current story has been saved. $ S29 Invalid line type for edit or display You have made a request to view or edit either an image file or an audio file but the cursor is not positioned on a SHOW, PASTE, or PLAY line. View and edit may only be used on these types of lines. $ S30 Rotate not valid for field You are attempting to rotate through a field that has no rotatable values. $ S31 Press ENTER when cursor reaches start of block Move the cursor to the first line you want and then press Enter. This will start this step. If you only want one line, press Enter twice. $ S32 Press ENTER when cursor reaches end of block Move the cursor to the last line you want and then press Enter. This will complete this step. If you only want one line, press Enter on that line. $ S33 Move cursor for more insert lines, or ENTER to end Move the cursor up or down until you have the number of blank lines you want. Then press Enter to complete the insertion. $ S34 Current line (where cursor is) restored to prior entry Undo successfully completed. $ S35 Deleted lines now restored You selected the "undo" function, and the lines you previously deleted have been put back in the story. $ S36 Inserted lines now removed You selected the "undo" function, and the lines you previously inserted have been removed from the story. $ S37 Undo not available The Undo buffer is currently empty. There is nothing to undo. $ S38 SHOW statement needed to set video mode You are attempting to set either source or target partial coordinates for a CLEAR or a COLOR statement, but no SHOW or PASTE statement ever precedes it. A SHOW or PASTE statement must be present so that a video mode can be established. $ S39 Not found The string entered could not be found anywhere in the story. Enter a new string or correct typos, if any, and try the search again. $ S40 One moment, please... Internal processing is taking place. You must wait for it to finish. $ S41 "Run Again" not available The story block you indicated is no longer visible, either because it was changed or it was in a different story. Mark another block to be run. $ S42 Cannot open text file If you are importing a file, the file cannot be found. Check the spelling of the name. If you are exporting a file, the drive may be write-protected or you may be using the name of an existing file marked read-only. $ S43 Error on text file read or write If you are importing a file, the file contains corrupt data and no part of it has been read. Use a different copy of the file. If you are exporting a file, there was an error during the write process. A section of the file may have been written, but if so it is incomplete. It is possible that the disk is full or that the drive is write-protected. Correct the problem and try again. $ S44 File must begin with /*AVC*/ The first line of the story must begin with the seven characters "/*AVC*/", starting in the first position. Correct the file and try again. $ S45 Text file is empty A file of the name indicated exists on the disk, but there is either nothing in it or nothing apart from the "/*AVC*/" line. Check the name you are using and the contents of the file. $ S46 Not enough memory to import file There is not enough memory available to read the file. $ S47 Text file can now be pasted The file you indicated has been brought into the copy buffer, as if you had copied the lines from another story. Paste the lines at the appropriate spot. $ S48 Break points cleared Breakpoint markings have been cleared from all lines in the story. $ S49 Story has no break points You selected the function to clear break point markings, but there were none in the story. No change has been made. $ S99 INTERNAL: downlevel story The story was created by a version of Story Editor that is now incompatible with the current version and is unusable. The story should be deleted. $ T01 Error initializing AVA interpreter There is not enough memory for the interpreter to start. $ T02 Error initializing AVA interpreter There is not enough memory for the interpreter to start. $ T03 Unable to load story file Either the story could not be found, or there is insufficient memory to load it. If you are trying to run Help, the full Help system is not installed. You can add Help to your AVC system by running the install procedure from your original AVC diskettes. $ T04 Error finding path or story name The story cannot be located. Check the directory name and the story name. $ T05 Story has run time errors The story has encountered an error condition and has stopped as a result. The most common causes are: - picture, audio, or called story not found - expression used with IF which did not evaluate to 0 or 1 - variable used with DO which did not evaluate to a number - unmatched DO/END pairs - attempt to divide by zero, or arithmetic overflow These are the most common problems, but the particular error in this case may be something different. Use Story Editor to run the story and isolate the problem. $ T06 Internal buffer space exceeded The story has become complex enough at this point to have overrun the interpreter's internal memory buffers. All of the following contribute to complexity: - number of IF-THEN-ELSE statements being evaluated - number of TELL statements executed to this point - number of nested CALLs, including built-in functions - number of active DO loops using counters - number of terms in active arithmetic or logical expressions, and extent of expression nesting with parentheses - length of evaluated arguments passed to procedures Revise the story to make it simpler. $ T07 Not enough memory If you are running the story in DOS, the most likely problem is that it has too great a demand on main memory space. The main contributors to memory demand are: - calls from large stories to other large stories - screens with a large number of triggers and text fields all shown at the same time - lengthy audio - large numbers of variables with long names and lengthy values If your story has any of these conditions, restructure it to cut its size (this should also improve its performance). If this is not the problem, your system may have insufficient free main memory or expanded memory, or (in OS/2) there may not be enough disk space for the system's swap file (you need 512K free space on the swap file's drive). $ Y01 Unable to write the profile The profile cannot be written. There is a problem with the disk or diskette drive. Correct the problem and try again. You may have to delete the file if it was partially written. $ Y02 Error or EOF while reading profile The profile cannot be read. Either there is a problem with the disk or diskette drive or the file's data has been damaged. Correct the problem and try again. $ Y03 No suitable video adapter detected The configurator did not find an acceptable video adapter for AVC operation. Verify your configuration and try again. $ Y04 Wrong version of profile The data in the profile file is corrupted. To correct the problem, delete the profile file and create it again. $ Y50 Mouse sensitivity out of range 1,10 The value entered for the mouse sensitivity parameter is not within the valid range of 1 through 10. Correct the error and try again. $ Y51 Mouse click time out of range 1,10 The value entered for the mouse click time parameter is not within the valid range of 1 through 10. Correct the error and try again. $ Y52 Unrecognized video adapter type You have entered an invalid video adapter type. Correct the error and try again. $ Y53 Parameter value out of range The value entered for a configuration parameter is not within the valid range. Correct the error and try again. $ Y99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM. $ Z05 AVC requires IOPL=YES in the CONFIG.SYS Your CONFIG.SYS file requires the statement IOPL=YES. Change the file and reboot. $ Z06 No LIM available - cannot load module To run in DOS, your system requires expanded memory. $ Z07 No LIM space available - cannot load module Your system does not have enough expanded memory. $ Z08 Not enough memory to run AVC In DOS, you need 512K (524,288 bytes) free memory to run AVC and possibly as much as 464K (475,136 bytes) to run TELL. The memory requirements for TELL depend on whether the system has an audio card and whether it is set up for host communications: i.e., has SRPI installed. The basic requirement is 416K (425,984). Audio needs an additional 36K and SRPI 12K. Use CHKDSK to find out how much free memory you have. If you are below the requirement, you should cut down on the resident programs in use by changing CONFIG.SYS to not load a device driver. Some programs, such as PRINT, become resident the first time you run them, and you may need to reboot to eliminate such a program. The AVC cannot be run in the DOS compatibility box. If this is the problem, switch over to OS/2 and run from there. For OS/2 systems running SuperVGA, there is an incompatability between the BVHSVGA driver and AVC. In order to run AVC, edit the CONFIG.SYS and change 'SET VIO_VGA=(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA)' to 'SET VIO_VGA=(BVHVGA)'. $ Z10 Error searching path for AVC.EXE The AVC cannot determine the directory to load its code from. Your CONFIG.SYS file (or AUTOEXEC.BAT, if in DOS) needs a PATH= statement which includes the SYSTEM.!AV directory. The directory itself must be located off the root of a drive, not in a subdirectory. Correct or add the PATH= statement and reboot. $ Z11 Only 1 AVC Session allowed The system is already running under a different session. Switch back to that session and continue from there. $ Z12 Not enough disk space to run AVC In DOS, the AVC uses disk work space to enable you to switch from one editor to another in the same session. Each different editor you use will require about 150,000 bytes of work space. Check the amount of free disk space on the drive with your user library and delete files as necessary. $ Z13 Not enough LIM memory to run AVC In order to run the AVC, you need 2 megabytes of available expanded memory. Your CONFIG.SYS file has a DEVICE statement for the expanded memory manager. Check that it specifies sufficient memory. It may be that your expanded memory card is defective. If this is the case, a warning message will appear on the screen when you boot the system. If you have run some other program before running the AVC, it is possible that the program acquired expanded memory and did not release it when it ended. $ Z14 Invalid user library name The parameter typed with the AVC command must indicate the name of a user library and may need to include path information if your current directory is not the root. If your user name is USER, for example, there must be a root sub- directory named USER.!AL. This directory is your "library". If your current directory is not the root or is on a different drive from your library, you need to provide path information . . . for example, AVC \USER or AVC C:\USER. $ Z15 Program file missing for requested feature One of the program code files is missing from the SYSTEM.!AV directory. Reinstall the AVC. The reinstallation will add the missing file. $ Z16 Not enough memory for feature There is not enough memory to start the process you selected. Either your configuration prevents memory swapping or the drive with the swap file doesn't have enough free space. First, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure it permits swapping and that SWAPPATH= provides adequate free space. If not, change CONFIG.SYS and reboot. Check the amount of free space on the swap file drive before starting the AVC. You will need a minimum of 2,200,000 bytes free to be able to operate at all and should have at least twice that amount to avoid periodic "out of memory" conditions. $ Z99 INTERNAL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx An internal error has occurred. Make note of the circumstances and report the error to IBM.
