The Developer Connection for OS/2 is an annual subscription program for application developers. It offers: - Limited Licenses to developers for toolkits, productivity tools, development tools, sample code, pre-release code, and LAN tools - Licenses for the latest OS/2 toolkits - Latest versions of OS/2 and LAN technical documentation Subscribers receive a yearly subscription of four issues that consist of multiple CDs, a newsletter, and electronic support on CompuServe, the Internet, and OS/2 BBS. ------------------------------- Q. If I'm a DOS or DOS/Windows user, how can I use the Promotional Copy of The Developer Connection for OS/2? A. In order to use the Promotional Copy of The Developer Connection most effectively, you must have a system with OS/2 2.x or OS/2 Warp. We help you by providing, on this CD, a pre-release (GAMMA) version of Warp with WIN-OS/2 that you can install on your DOS or DOS/Windows system. To install Warp with WIN-OS/2, you will have to create two diskettes and then continue the installation from the CD. Please refer to the OS2WARP.DSC file in the \INSTALL directory for further information on this. We suggest that you install pre-release versions such as this in a separate partition on your hard disk, if possible. If you have 10 programmers, you would buy one regular subscription and nine additional licenses at $75.00 each. For each additional license, you receive the current newsletter and a Proof of Additional License certificate, which entitles you to make one additional copy of the contents of the current CD volume. Additional licenses work best for Local Area Network (LAN) development environments. ------------------------------ Q. What kind of support do you get on CompuServe? How does it work? A. The OS2DF2 forum is a private Developer Connection section on CompuServe, and is available only to subscribers. It gives subscribers the advantage of interfacing with IBM developers and other subscribers. IBM developers welcome your comments and suggestions and will respond to your questions and concerns. In addition, updates to products are placed in the private CompuServe library and are available to subscribers. Similar support is available on the Internet and OS/2 BBS. ------------------------------ Q. Do my licenses for the release-level toolkits end when my subscription expires? A. Your licenses for the following toolkits continue after your subscription expires as long as you adhere to the terms and conditions of the license agreement: - The Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 2.1 - Multimedia Presentation Manager Toolkit/2 - Pen for OS/2 Developer's Toolkit 1.0 - The Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp, Version 3 ------------------------------ Q. When a product on The Developer Connection CD is labeled "Demo," what exactly does it mean? A. "Demo" is a legal term for a product that is not to be used for generating production-level code. Demos are not product overviews; product overviews are listed in the Product Overview category in the Catalog. Demo products do not necessarily have reduced functionality. ------------------------------ Q. How do I remove The Developer Connection from my system? A. You can remove The Developer Connection from your system by following these steps: 1. Delete The Developer Connection icon. 2. Using an INI editor, edit the following lines in your OS2.INI file. (EDITINI in the Development Tools category in the Catalog may be used) a) Set the Application Name to PM_Workplace:Location. b) Delete all occurrences of keynames related to The Developer Connection Browser. 3. Delete the following files in the OS2\DLL directory. If access is denied, remove the "read only" attribute. DEVCONF.DLL DEVCONS.DLL 4. Reboot your system. ------------------------------ Q. I know that the Warp with WIN-OS/2 that is shipped with The Developer Connection for OS/2 promotional copy is a GAMMA version. When I purchase the retail verion of Warp with WIN-OS/2, will it install over this GAMMA? A. As with most pre-release operating systems, the retail version of Warp with WIN-OS/2 will not be supported to install over the GAMMA versions of the product. Do one of the following before installing the retail version: 1. Uninstall the GAMMA version by following the instructions in the README file in the root directory of the Promotional Copy CD. or 2. Copy the SYSLEVEL.OS2 file from the retail version Diskette 1 into the OS2\INSTALL subdirectory. (This has worked in all the cases we have tested; however, it is not officially supported.) or 3. Reformat the partition with the GAMMA version and then install the retail version.
