XY-Query for OS/2 - Product Information --------------------------------------- XY-Query is an interactive query development application. It is a Presentation Manager application that runs on OS/2, providing native access to DB2 and XDB local and remote relational databases. It can be installed in standalone, database client-only and database server configurations. Remote data access to DB2 family locations is achieved using the IBM SAA Distributed Database Connection Services /2 (DDCS/2) database gateway product. XY-Query offers the flexibility to accommodate users with varying degrees of SQL proficiency. It does not inhibit power users who are familiar with SQL, but it also supports the less experienced user through its easy-to-use Query Builder function. Users with no knowledge of SQL can still benefit from the power and flexibility of XY-Query by using pre-built reports that can request and display the required data in a specific format. In such cases, the user has no requirement to see the SQL. XY-Query is based around three windows. The SQL window enables you to develop your own SQL or import existing queries from your legacy QMF or XDB systems. The submission of the query to the XY-Query engine will rapidly return the requested data from the selected database. The data can then either be displayed in its normal text format in the Viewer window or you can choose to display it graphically in the Chart window. The two data display windows have extensive tailoring capabilities enabling you to produce a report or a chart to your own specification. Each of the windows is only ever one click away from any other meaning that you can see your report, chart and query all at the same time. Having developed your query, report and chart you can save all of the information about all of the windows in one XY-Query object. You can opt to create an Sql, Viewer or Chart object. The latter two will automatically execute the defined query when the object is opened and show the report or chart. However, each window is still available whatever the object type. One of the major themes through the product is flexibility. Each window has its own settings notebook from where individual attributes relative to the window can be set. There is also an overall default Settings facility which allows the user to tailor a whole host of product attributes to their own preferences. XY-Query also offers a comprehensive REXX API which it uses as the basis of its own Procedures. This also means that the power and flexibility of the XY-Query engine and associated function is available to developers of REXX visual and command line programs. Similar to the query based objects, you can create XY-Query Procedure objects. The following is a list of some of the key features of XY-Query: .Single interface for queries and reporting on DB2 and XDB family databases .Provides step-by-step assistance for query-building .Allows dynamic table updates .Provides comprehensive report formatting .Displays data in various chart formats .REXX API for Procedures .Uses SQL, Viewer, Chart and Procedure objects .Objects can be shared with password protection preventing corruption .Data can be exported to industry standard formats .Can save data as tables at local and remote locations .Can directly import and run existing queries held in legacy DB2 and XDB systems. .Can be invoked via DDE to enable data retrieval directly into spreadsheet applications .Highly tailorable using its Settings facility
