OS2AUDIO - SOUND BLASTER SUPPORT - OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 01/08/96 ======================================================================= Sound Blaster Support - OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document lists the Sound Blaster drivers that are available, and describes various ways to install Sound Blaster support. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup copy of any file you intend to change. Before you add the Sound Blaster adapter to the MMPM/2 system, you must know the interrupt level and I/O port address. For the Sound Blaster Pro, you also must know the DMA channels. These settings were shown when you installed the adapter. If you do not remember them, do the following: * For a Micro Channel computer, start from the Reference Diskette and look at the system configuration. * On a non-Micro-Channel computer, check the jumper settings on your Sound Blaster adapter. If you need additional information about the settings, see the OS/2 documentation, as well as the documentation that came with the sound card. The following Sound Blaster adapters are supported for use with MMPM/2 under OS/2 2.1 and 2.11: * IBM Audio Capture and Playback Adapter (ACPA) * Sound Blaster 2.0 * Sound Blaster (16-bit card with jumpers; CT1700 series) * Sound Blaster Pro, Model CT1330 * Sound Blaster Pro II Model CT1600 * Pro AudioSpectrum 16 * Pro AudioSpectrum Studio Audio Support in WIN-OS/2 and DOS sessions is dependent on installed drivers. You should install the audio-adapter driver that came with your audio adapter. When installing audio support for WIN-OS/2, be sure to install both DOS and Windows device drivers. Configure both drivers to use the same interrupt level and DMA channel. Audio Capture and Playback Adapter (ACPA) ----------------------------------------- The following drivers are available with the ACPA: * ACPADD.SYS * ACPADD2.SYS * ACPAK12.SYS * ACPA.DRV The latest updates are available from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001). MMPM/2 installs ACPA support for OS/2 only, not WIN-OS/2 or DOS. At the command prompt, type E CONFIG.SYS and press Enter to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Add the statement, DEVICE=C:\ACPAK12.SYS. 3. Save and exit the CONFIG.SYS file. 4. Adding WIN-OS/2 Sound Blaster Support ------------------------------------- MMPM/2 installs Sound Blaster and Pro AudioSpectrum-16 support for OS/2 only, not WIN-OS/2 or DOS. To add Sound Blaster support for WIN-OS/2: 1. Install the DOS device driver following the instructions that came with the adapter. Use an OS/2 DOS session for the installation. 2. Install the Windows driver. Note: Be sure to use the same I/O address, interrupt, and DMA settings used during installation of the DOS drivers. ERROR MESSAGE VDMAD.386 NOT FOUND --------------------------------- If you receive this error message: 1. Try running the Windows application in Standard mode. 2. If a specific application needs WIN-OS/2 in Enhanced mode: a. Open a DOS Window or DOS Full Screen. b. Change to the OS2\MDOS directory and make a backup copy of VDMA.SYS c. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each: DEBUG VDMA.SYS E 1C01 2 W Q d. Type EXIT and press Enter. If this doesn't work and you are still having problems with the WIN-OS/2 session, contact your vendor and ask for the latest and correct drivers for your particular product. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
