OS2LANIC - RECOVERY PROCEDURES FOR IBM LAN, EXTENDED SERVICES, COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER/2, AND DATABASE MANAGER 01/22/96 ======================================================================= Recovery Procedures for IBM LAN, Extended Services, Communications Manager/2, and Database Manager--OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document contains various recovery procedures: * Lost Extended Services and LAN Icons: This procedure can be used to recover lost Extended Services or LAN Services and User Profile Manager (UPM) icons if it is necessary to rename or make new system INI files. * IBM LAN and Extended Services: Download a REXX program to re-create folders and objects automatically. The program is MKESLAN.CMD and can be obtained from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001). * Communications Manager/2: Run CMSETUP from an OS/2 window. Select Options and then Recreate Folders. * Database Manager Icons: Procedure to recover Database Manager icons after running MAKEINI. RESOLUTION Recovering LAN Services and User Profile Manager (UPM) Icons ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Type \IBMLAN\INSTALL\LANINST and press Enter. 2. Select OK. 3. Select Advanced. 4. Select Install or Configure this WS; then select OK. 5. Select Fixed Disk where the requester is installed; then select OK. 6. Select Configure a Component and OK. 7. Select LAN Adapter and Protocol Support; then select Configure. 8. Select Configure WS and OK. 9. Select OK on the Configure WS screen; do not make any changes. 10. Select Configuration Complete and OK. 11. Select OK on the LAN Adapters screen. 12. Select OK on the Configure Screen. 13. Select OK to apply changes; none were made. If the requester is running: 14. Select OK to stop the requester. 15. Select OK on the File Backup screen (note the directory and the name of the backed-up CONFIG.SYS file for recovery). When the operation is complete, LAN Services and UPM icons are on the Desktop. Perform a shutdown and restart the system. Recovering the Communications Manager Icon ------------------------------------------ 1. Back up the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Type REINST and press Enter. 3. Select Option 1 - Install Communications Manager. 4. Select Option 1 - Configuration Files. 5. Select Esc+Cancel on the CM Configuration File menu. 6. Select F3 on the CM Install menu. 7. Select F3 on the ES Install/Remove menu. When the operation is complete, the Communications Manager icon is on the Desktop. Perform a shutdown and restart the system. Recovering Database Manager Icons after Running MAKEINI ------------------------------------------------------- 1. Open OS2 System and then System Setup. 2. Select Migrate Applications. 3. Make sure OS/2 programs is the only choice checked in the Find Programs window. 4. Make sure the Database Manager drive letter is the only one highlighted. 5. Select Find to open the Migrate Programs window. 6. Select OK; there were no programs found to migrate. 7. Select the Add Programs button to open the Add Programs window. 8. Add the following files to the Selected Programs window: (Highlight one file at a time in the Available Programs window; then select Add. The file moves from the Available Programs window to the Selected Programs window.) CONFIG.EXE DIRECT.EXE RECOVERY.EXE DBM.CMD QUERYMGR.EXE Notes: * The files are in the \SQLLIB directory in the partition where Database Manager was initially installed. If you don't know where Database Manager was installed, type ATTRIB DBM.CMD /S and press Enter at the root of each partition. If the DBM.CMD file is in the partition, it appears after the command is executed. * Use the cursor-control keys to find the files in the Available Programs window. File names are on the left followed by their drive letter and directory. Scrolling to the right displays directories, making it easier to find the \SQLLIB directory with files you need to add. 9. Make sure OS/2 is selected as the program type; then select OK after adding the files. 10. Select Migrate in the Migrate Programs window. 11. Exit the migration utility and return to the Desktop. The Database icons should be on the Desktop. An additional icon can be created using the Program icon from the Templates folder: 1. Open the Templates folder. 2. Point at the Program icon; then press and hold mouse button 2 and drag the Program icon to an empty area of the Desktop. Release the mouse button. The Settings notebook opens. 3. Type x:\OS2\VIEW.EXE in the Required Path and file name field (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed). 4. Type DBMSG.INF in the Optional Parameters field. 5. Type x:\SQLLIB\BOOK in the Working Directory field (x is the drive where Database Manager is installed). 6. Select Close to exit the Settings folder. 7.
