OSCINMDK - SET DESKTOP= ERROR DURING OS/2 WARP INSTALLATION 01/16/96 ======================================================================= SET DESKTOP= Error during OS/2 Warp Installation ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION The following error message appears after the first restart of the installation or when trying to use the Maintenance Desktop: The desktop specified by the SET DESKTOP = in the CONFIG.SYS does not exist or is corrupted, the directory stored in OS2INI will be used instead. When you select OK, the following message appears: Your desktop could not be found in the OS2INI file. An attempt will be made to create a temporary directory. If this fails an OS/2 window will be displayed. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. 1. At an OS/2 command prompt, type E CONFIG.SYS and press Enter to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Change: SET OLDUSER_INI=C:\OS2\OS2.INI and SET OLDSYSTEM_INI=C:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI To: REM SET OLDUSER_INI=C:\OS2\OS2.INI and REM SET OLDSYSTEM_INI=C:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI 3. Save and exit the file; then turn off the system. 4. Remove any NE2000-compatible Ethernet cards. 5. Turn on the system and check for I/O conflicts. If the problem still exists: a. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A. b. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. c. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert Diskette 1; then press Enter. d. At the Welcome screen, press F3 to go to a command prompt. e. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed): x: CD \OS2\INSTALL f. Type COPY INSTALL.INI INSTALL.TST and press Enter to back up the INSTALL.INI. g. Type MAKEINI INSTALL.INI INSTALL.RC and press Enter. h. Remove the diskette and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
