OSCMMCDR - GENERAL CD-ROM INFORMATION FOR OS/2 WARP 01/08/96 ======================================================================= General CD-ROM Information for OS/2 Warp ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document contains information about system requirements and installation, and SCSI and non-SCSI device-driver parameters. For information about IDE CD-ROM support, and a list of compatible device drivers, see technical documents: * OSMMCDID - IDE CD-ROM support for OS/2 Warp * OSMMCDDD - CD-ROM Compatibility List for OS/2 Warp RESOLUTION Notes: * You need 5 MB of hard disk space to install Multimedia. * For Non-IBM Systems: It is suggested that you disable turbo, cache, and shadow RAM. (Not required for Packard Bell systems.) * For All Systems: Set video to VGA, 640x480, 8-bit slot or mode, if possible. Disable autosensing, if possible. Disconnect modem, tape backup, network card, scanners, and other devices and features during installation. After installation, enable and connect all features and devices. If you are using non-IBM device drivers for the CD-ROM, and a device driver does not exist on Diskette 1, the device driver might not be copied to the hard disk after the installation is complete. Do a DISKCOPY of Diskette 1; then edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add this statement: COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 The Installation program will now copy files from Diskette 1 as if the diskette were in the drive and you were installing from a drive other than A. The CONFIG.SYS file has the following statements for CD-ROM: DEVICE=x:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q IFS=x:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q BASEDEV= /P:xxx where x is the drive where OS/2 is installed; xxx are the CD-ROM parameters; /Q is quiet mode (error messages are not displayed); /V is view mode (error messages are displayed). If the files specified in the statements are not present, you can manually add them. They are on Diskette 2 in the bundled files, CDROMREQ and CDROMFLT. If the device driver is not listed or you need assistance, contact the vendor for an OS/2 driver. CD-ROM device drivers are constantly updated. If you are installing OS/2 Warp and the CD-ROM driver that came with OS/2 Warp is not recognized, download the latest drivers from the IBM PCC BBS at 919-517-0001. The file you need is CDDRVR.ZIP and contains the following drivers: LMS205 22055 11-05-94 LMS206 23442 11-05-94 MITFX 16359 11-06-94 SBCD2 15227 11-06-94 SONY53 14630 11-05-94 Note: If you cannot connect to the BBS, contact your local IBM branch office. Philips LMS CM205 and CM225 are on the Installation Diskette. For CD-ROM installation, you must add the driver to Diskette 1 and the CONFIG.SYS file: 1. DISKCOPY Diskette 1. 2. Insert the COPY of Diskette 1 in the diskette drive. 3. Type DEL LMS206.ADD and press Enter. 4. Copy the file, LM205.ADD, from the Installation Diskette to the copy of Diskette 1. 5. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the copy of Diskette 1: Change: BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD To: REM BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD Add: BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD 6. Restart the installation. 7. When prompted, insert the modified Diskette 1. Note: If you're adding a device driver to Diskette 1 and the diskette does not have enough space, you can delete the following files from the COPY of Diskette 1: For a non-Micro Channel system: Files IBM2.* For a Micro Channel system: Files IBM1.* Non-SCSI CD-ROM Device-Driver Parameters ---------------------------------------- Refer to the User's Guide to OS/2 Warp for information about CD-ROM parameters and CD-ROM problems. Mitsumi ------- The device-driver parameters for the following CD-ROM drives are in MITFX001.ADD: Mitsumi CRMC-FX001D Mitsumi CRMC-FX001 Mitsumi CRMC-LU005S Mitsumi CRMC-LU002S BSR 6800 Tandy CDR-1000 Parameter Definitions /P:nnn Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card. This must be same number specified on the interface card. /I:nn Specifies the interrupt request (IRQ) channel number. This must match the IRQ value selected on the host interface card. If this parameter is not specified, the device driver uses software polling transfer. /V Verbose. The device-driver revision level and CD-ROM product-identification information is displayed when you start the system. Parameter Examples 1. Mitsumi CD-ROM drive attached to Mitsumi host adapter: If the Mitsumi host adapter is set to a base I/O port address of 320, the BASEDEV statement in the CONFIG.SYS file is: BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD /P:320 2. Mitsumi CD-ROM drive attached to Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 MultiCD. If the Mitsumi CD-ROM port on the Sound Blaster 16 MultiCD is set to an I/O port address of 320, the CONFIG.SYS statement is: BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD /P:320 3. To enable interrupt-transfer mode, which improves performance, the /I parameter must be specified. For example, to enable interrupt-transfer mode for IRQ channel 10 at an I/O port address of 320h, the CONFIG.SYS statement is: BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD /P:320 /I:10 Sony ---- The device-driver parameters for the following CD-ROM drives are in SONY31A.ADD: Sony CDU-31A Sony CDU-33A Sony CDU-7305 Sony CDU-7405 Parameter Definitions /A:n Identifies a specific adapter, n. The adapter is specified as a single-digit value which is zero based (that is, the first adapter is specified as /A:0). /AT:dd Sets the adapter type connected to the CD-ROM drive. Supported values are: 00 = Sony CDB-334 (default) 08 = Media Vision Pro AudioSpectrum-16 /P:nnnn Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card. If unsuccessful, please contact the drive vendor. 1. Make diskette images from the CD-ROM, using DOS. You need formatted diskettes to copy the images for the Installation program, printer drivers, display drivers, and other options, such as Multimedia and the BonusPak. 2. Disconnect the CD-ROM drive. 3. Install OS/2 Warp from the diskettes. 4. Copy device drivers (files with the .ADD extension) to the \OS2\BOOT subdirectory (CD-ROM/sound card or adapter). 5. Connect the CD-ROM drive and plug in the sound card and the controller/adapter. 6. Do a Selective Install for CD-ROM: a. Select OS/2 System. b. Select System Setup. c. Select Selective Install. This process modifies the CONFIG.SYS file. Statements that should appear are: DEVICE=x:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q IFS=x:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q BASEDEV= where x is the drive where OS/2 is installed. All device drivers must be compatible with OS/2 Warp to run. If this procedure does not work, contact the vendor of the CD-ROM drive for the appropriate drivers. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
