OSDAADDP - SOLVING DOS APPLICATION PROBLEMS UNDER OS/2 WARP 02/09/96 ======================================================================= Solving DOS Application Problems under OS/2 Warp ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Cannot run DOS applications as expected under OS/2 Warp. RESOLUTION OS/2 Warp includes optimized DOS settings for many DOS applications and games on the market as of October 1994. Use the OS/2 Warp Add Programs utility to migrate DOS applications currently installed on the hard disk to the Desktop folder, DOS Programs. Follow these steps to add programs: 1. Move the mouse pointer to a blank area of the Desktop and press mouse button 2 to display the Desktop pop-up menu. 2. Select System Setup. 3. Select Add Programs. 4. Select Add new programs. 5. Select OK. Note: The software searches the hard disks for programs to add to the OS/2 Desktop. 6. Exit the program when the search is complete. 7. Look in the new DOS Programs folder on the OS/2 Desktop for the migrated programs. Additional Application Notes ---------------------------- 1. OS/2 Warp DOS emulation includes support for the following DOS programs: Microsoft MSCDEX.EXE You do not need to run this DOS application to get CD-ROM support under OS/2 Warp, assuming the CD-ROM drive is supported by OS/2. Check the OS/2 Warp documentation for specific model support. DOS SHARE.EXE You do not need to run this DOS application to provide file-sharing capabilities for DOS programs that share data. The SHARE.EXE functionality is in OS/2 Warp DOS emulation. 2. Borland Paradox 4.0 or 4.5 for DOS: Paradox comes with an OS/2 command file that creates a folder and program object for Paradox on the Desktop. Start an OS/2 Window and change directories to Paradox for DOS. Type PDOX and press Enter. This step automatically installs the Desktop-folder and program-object icons with all the correct settings. 3. Borland C++ 4.0x for DOS and Windows: MAKE.EXE This program does not run in an OS/2 Warp DOS session because of the OS/2 Warp DPMI specification version. MAKE.EXE requires DPMI version 1.0 support. OS/2 Warp supplies DPMI version 0.9 support. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
