OSDIDELT - REMOVING OS/2 2.X FROM A PRELOADED SYSTEM 12/27/95 ======================================================================= Removing OS/2 2.x from a Preloaded System ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This procedure describes how to remove OS/2 from your preloaded computer. Remember to install another operating system, such as DOS. The computer cannot run without an operating system. RESOLUTION 1. Create utility diskettes: Note: Use high-density diskettes - at least 1.44 MB. a. Turn on the computer. b. Close the OS/2 Tutorial. c. Open the Configuration Tools folder. d. Select Create Utility Diskettes. e. Select Drive A. f. Insert blank diskettes when prompted. g. Upon completion, close all open folders. h. Move the mouse pointer to a blank part of the Desktop; then click the right mouse button to display the menu. i. Select Shutdown; then select OK for all of the confirmations. j. When "It is now safe to turn off your computer" appears, turn the system off. 2. Remove OS/2: a. Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A; then turn on the system. Diskette 1 takes a moment to load. b. When prompted, insert Utility Diskette 2. c. At the A:\ prompt, insert: * Diskette 1, if you made 2 utility diskettes * Diskette 3, if you made 3 utility diskettes d. Type OSDELETE and press Enter. e. When asked "Do You Wish To Continue?," press Y. f. When asked "Do You Wish To Stop Now?," press N. g. When asked for the system's serial number, type the correct number and press Enter. All OS/2 related files and directories on the hard disk are deleted. After a few moments, a verification number is displayed. Keep this number so, if necessary, you can verify that you once had OS/2 on your system.
