OSDIFPER - DISKETTE-DRIVE ERRORS WITH PS/VALUEPOINT AND OS/2 2.1 01/17/96 ======================================================================= Diskette-Drive Errors with PS/ValuePoint and OS/2 2.1 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION A PS/ValuePoint with an IBM 5250 Emulation adapter running in a DOS environment, might experience diskette-drive access failures. The error message states "Drive not ready" or "Error reading from or writing to drive A." The PS/ValuePoint diagnostic tests do not indicate a failure. The system is using one of following: * IBM PC Support/400 Version 2.11 or later. * IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.2 or later RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. The diskette-drive failures are caused by an interrupt conflict between the 5250 adapter and the diskette-drive controller. IBM PC Support/400 Version 2.11 or Later ---------------------------------------- 1. Change to the PC Support directory. The default is C:\PCS. 2. Edit the batch file used to start PC Support. The default is STARTPCS.BAT. 3. Change the line that starts with E5250AH to start with E5250AH /Lx (x can be 3, 6, or 7, but try 3 first). 4. Save and exit the file. 5. Restart the system; then restart PC Support. IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.2 or Later -------------------------------------------------------- 1. Use the Advanced Options function in the 5250 emulation package to access the E5250 configuration program. 2. Change the interrupt to 3. (The configuration program allows 3, 6, or 7, but try 3 first.) There is no switch setting on the card that will eliminate the diskette-drive access failures. Non-IBM software and hardware might exhibit similar symptoms. Modify the interrupt settings for the non-IBM configuration to isolate a potential conflict. If you still have the problem after trying the procedures, check or replace media and perform problem determination procedures. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
