OSDIPTDS - HOW TO ENABLE PCMCIA SLOTS ON THINKPADS AND DOCKING STATIONS 10/25/96 ======================================================================= How to Enable PCMCIA Slots on ThinkPads and Docking Stations ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After docking a ThinkPad in a Dock II, the system no longer recognizes the PCMCIA slots in the ThinkPad, but the slots in the docking station are recognized. RESOLUTION To enable the two PCMCIA slots in the ThinkPad as well as the two slots in the Dock II, change the following line the CONFIG.SYS file, then restart the system for the change to take effect: From: BASEDEV=PCM2ATA.ADD /S:2 /!DM /NOBEEP To: BASEDEV=PCM2ATA.ADD /S:4 /!DM /NOBEEP This will allow four drive letters to be allocated and usable when the ThinkPad is docked. When docked, the docking station slots take precedence over the ThinkPad slots. The Docking Station reserves the first two drive letters; now, the remaining two drive letters are assigned to the slots in the ThinkPad. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
