OSHTAPDS - SYSTEM LOCKS UP AFTER RUNNING DOS OR WINDOWS APPLICATION 10/28/96 ======================================================================= System Locks Up after Running DOS or Windows Application ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After using a DOS/Windows Dedicated Session (also called Real Mode, True Mode, and Trap Door), the system does not return to OS/2. Several symptoms may occur, for example: * Lock up with a blank screen * General protection fault error * Access Violation * Trap error RESOLUTION If this occurs, do the following: 1. Restart the system (Ctrl-Alt-Del, if possible). 2. When the OS/2 and white rectangle appear in the top left corner, press Alt-F1. 3. When the blue Recovery Choices screen appears, press F2 for a command prompt. 4. Once at a command prompt, type TEDIT CONFIG.SYS and press Enter. 5. Press Esc. 6. Scroll to the SET AUTOSTART line and remove the word PROGRAMS from the line. 7. Look for the following line: SET RESTARTOBJECTS=NO If this line does not exist, scroll to the bottom of the file. Press Insert, then Enter, to insert a blank line. Add SET RESTARTOBJECTS=NO 8. Press F4 to save and exit the CONFIG.SYS. 9. Restart the system.
