OSIN1024 - FDISK ERROR ON LARGE HARD DISKS DURING INSTALLATION OF OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 01/29/96 ======================================================================= FDISK Error on Large Hard Disks during Installation of OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION When installing OS/2 2.1 or OS/2 2.11 on systems with hard disks greater that 1 GB, an FDISK error is received or you cannot start from installation diskettes. RESOLUTION OS/2 does not support startable partitions greater than 1024 cylinders. This is a hardware limitation and is true of DOS and OS/2, whether a high performance file system (HPFS) or a file allocation table (FAT) file system. Define the startup-partition size to be within the first 1024 cylinders: 1. Check the documentation for the hard disk and see how many MB are in the first 1024 cylinders. 2. Make sure that any startable partition is created at the beginning of free space and is within the size limitation. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
