OSIN1719 - ERROR MESSAGE SYS1719 WHILE INSTALLING OS/2 WARP 02/01/96 ======================================================================= Error Message SYS1719 while Installing OS/2 Warp ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of OS/2 Warp 3.0, the following error message is received: SYS1719: The file "***" specified in the *** statement on line *** of the CONFIG.SYS file does not contain a valid device driver or file system driver. Line *** is ignored. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. The specified file does not contain a valid device driver or file system driver, or contains a valid DOS device driver when a DOS session was not started. 1. At the command prompt, type E CONFIG.SYS and press Enter to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Correct or remark-out (REM) the incorrect statement, or remark out the PROTECTONLY=YES statement. For example, to remark-out PROTECTONLY=YES, change it to REM PROTECTONLY=YES. 3. If the error message pertains to display devices: a. Make sure the following video statements specify VGA mode (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed): DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,x:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_VGA SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA) DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS b. If video is in SVGA mode, reset to VGA mode (see next topic). c. Contact the vendor and make sure you have the latest and correct video driver. 4. Save and exit the file. 5. Make sure the file specified in the error message contains the correct device driver or file system driver. 6. Install all dynamic link libraries required by the specified device driver. 7. Restart the system. Resetting Video to VGA Mode --------------------------- 1. Turn on your system. If it is already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it. 2. When the small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press Alt+F1 to display the Recovery Choices screen. 3. At the Recovery Choices screen, type V. This resets video to VGA. Note: If the screen is not completely restored to VGA, redo the steps. If you receive the error message: SYS1200: The system cannot create the DOS environment. The error code is 0281.: 1. Open OS/2 System. 2. Open OS/2 System Setup. 3. Open Selective Install. 4. Select OK. 5. Select OS/2 DOS Support. A check mark appears in the box. 6. Select Install. Follow the instructions on the screen. 7. Upon completion, remove the diskette; then restart the system. If OS/2 system files are corrupted: 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A. 2. Turn on the system or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on. 3. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert Diskette 1; then press Enter. 4. When the Welcome screen appears, press F3 to get to a command prompt. 5. Insert the Installation Diskette again. 6. At the command prompt, type SYSINSTX x: and press Enter (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed). 7. Upon completion, remove the diskette; then restart the system. If DOS system files are corrupted: 1. Start the system using a DOS startable diskette. 2. At the A:\ prompt, type SYS C: and press Enter. 3.
