OSIN2SCS - OS/2 WARP INSTALL FAILS ON FIRST RESTART IN SYSTEM WITH TWO SCSI CONTROLLERS 11/11/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 Warp Install Fails on First Restart in System with Two SCSI Controllers ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of OS/2 Warp 4 on a system with two SCSI controllers, a device driver error, system lock up, or a different error message occurs when the system restarts from the hard disk. RESOLUTION If more than one SCSI adapter is present, a BASEDEV statement for each adapter normally is added to the CONFIG.SYS file. The OS/2 installation does not consider which SCSI adapter is being used for installation when it chooses the order of the BASEDEV statements in the CONFIG.SYS file. The device drivers for the adapters are loaded in the order that their BASEDEV statements appear in the CONFIG.SYS file. The BASEDEV statement for the driver of the SCSI adapter where OS/2 is being installed must be placed before the BASEDEV statement for the other SCSI adapter. Chances are that the order of the BASEDEV statements is backwards. OS/2 assumes that the adapter for which the first BASEDEV statement it finds in the CONFIG.SYS is controlling the hard disk that OS/2 is being installed on. To resolve the problem, reverse the order of the BASEDEV statements in the CONFIG.SYS file for the SCSI device drivers: 1. Restart the system with the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette, inserting Diskettes 1 and 2 when prompted. 2. Press F3 at the Welcome screen to escape to a command prompt. 3. Type COPY C:\CONFIG.SYS C:\CONFIG.BAD, then press Enter, to make a backup copy of CONFIG.SYS (where C: is the OS/2 installation drive). 4. Type TEDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. 5. Press Esc. Scroll through the file to look for BASEDEV statements. 6. Reverse the order of the SCSI device BASEDEV statements, then press F4 to save and exit the file. 7. Remove the diskette from drive A: and restart the system. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
