OSIN8595 - CANNOT INSTALL OS/2 WITH BOOT MANAGER ON AN IBM PS/2 8595 WITH 90 MHZ PENTIUM PROCESSOR 07/15/96 ====================================================================== Cannot Install OS/2 with Boot Manager on an IBM PS/2 8595 with 90 MHz Pentium Processor ====================================================================== Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION When installing OS/2, using Boot Manager, on an IBM PS/2 8595 with a 90 MHz Pentium processor, the installation proceeds without problem until the first reboot, when the following error message appears: Drive 1 is not ready. System is Halted. If you do not use Boot Manager, the install completes successfully, and OS/2 is fully functional. All SCSI drive and SCSI adapter diagnostics complete with no errors found. The following modifications to the system DO NOT resolve the problem: * Changing startup sequence settings (configurable via reference diskette or reference partition). * Installing Boot Manager at the beginning of free space or at the end of free space. * Removing all other SCSI devices; leaving the hard drive controller and SCSI disk drive id 6 (the startup drive) as the only SCSI devices configured. RESOLUTION The BIOS level that ships with the 90 MHz Pentium processor complex on a PS/2 model 8595 is version 3 (as displayed during startup: IBM SurePath(TM) BIOS - Revision level 03). Upgrading the system BIOS (Flash BIOS) to Revision level 05 solves the problem. Please check with the IBM PC Company for the latest BIOS version available and where to obtain it. After the BIOS update the system is then able to use Boot Manager with no problem. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
