OSINAIC7 - AIC7870.ADD DRIVER PROBLEM IN OS/2 WARP 4 10/25/96 ======================================================================= AIC7870.ADD Driver Problem in OS/2 Warp 4 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After installing OS/2 Warp 4 on a system with an Adaptec 2940 family controller, the system stops at the Logo screen during startup. If you restart the system, pressing Alt-F2 at the white rectangle to display device drivers, the system stops at XDFLOPPY.FLT. If you edit the CONFIG.SYS file and REM the BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT statement, the system stops at OS2DASD.DMD. RESOLUTION 1. Obtain an earlier level of the AIC7870.ADD file, by downloading WARPINST.EXE from the IBM PC Company Web site at http://www.pc.ibm.com. 2. Restart the system, pressing Alt-F1 when the small white rectangle appears in the upper left corner. Press F2 to go to a command prompt. 3. Make a backup copy of AIC7870.ADD: At the OS/2 command prompt, change to the \OS2\BOOT subdirectory and type COPY AIC7870.ADD AIC7870.BAK, then press Enter. 4. Copy WARPINST.EXE into a temporary directory. 5. Change to that temporary directory, and type WARPINST, then press Enter, to extract the files. 6. Type COPY AIC7870.ADD C:\OS2\BOOT, then press Enter (where C: is the drive letter where OS/2 is installed). 7. Restart the system; it should start successfully and have access to all of the devices attached to the Adaptec controller. Note: This issue has also been resolved by moving the Adaptec 2940 controller to the first PCI slot on the motherboard. Please contact your computer manufacturer or Adaptec for assistance. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
