OSINALTE - ALTERNATE CONFIG.SYS FILES IN OS/2 WARP 02/05/96 ======================================================================= Alternate CONFIG.SYS Files in OS/2 Warp ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document describes how to create, and then retrieve, an alternate CONFIG.SYS file. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you make a copy of the current CONFIG.SYS file. 1. Copy the CONFIG.SYS file in the \OS2\INSTALL directory to the OS2\BOOT directory. 2. Rename the file to CONFIG.n, where n is any letter or number except C, M, V, X, 1, 2, or 3; for example, CONFIG.L or CONFIG.4. The letter or number you select will be displayed on the Recovery Choices screen. 3. Change to the \OS2\BOOT directory; then type the following and press Enter to remove the Read-Only attribute from the ALTF1BOT.SCR file: ATTRIB -R ALTF1BOT.SCR 4. Type E ALTF1BOT.SCR and press Enter to edit the file. 5. Press the Spacebar 3 times and add the letter or number associated with n. This will align the statement with the others that appear on the Recovery Choices screen. Add a one-line description of when to use this version of the CONFIG.SYS file. For example: L) CONFIG.L will load LAN drivers when chosen. 6. Save and exit the file. Any time you want to use the alternate CONFIG.SYS file: 1. Turn on the system. If it is already on, perform a shutdown and then press Ctrl+Alt+Del. 2. When the small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press Alt+F1. The Recovery Choices screen appears. 3. Select the letter corresponding to the CONFIG.SYS file you want to retrieve. Note: You must select the alternate CONFIG.SYS file from the Recovery Choices screen each time you want to use it; otherwise, OS/2 defaults to the CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory. Selecting the alternate CONFIG.SYS file does NOT overwrite the one in the root directory. You also can use this procedure for .CMD files. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
