OSINBINS - INSTALLING OS/2 2.1 WHEN DRIVE A IS 5.25-INCH 01/05/96 ======================================================================= Installing OS/2 2.1 when Drive A Is 5.25-Inch ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Your OS/2 2.1 package contains 3.5-inch diskettes, and your 3.5-inch drive is drive B. RESOLUTION 1. Exchange the OS/2 2.1 package for a 5.25-inch version. 2. Download the following from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001) or from CompuServe: Blue Diskettes: PKUNZIP INS21L.ZIP LDF.COM Salmon or Green Diskettes: PKUNZIP INS21M.ZIP LDF.COM Each file has a README file that provides instructions. PKUNZIP is addressed shortly after logging on and gives you the option to download it. 3. Create 5.25-inch OS/2 startable diskettes using the procedure below and install OS/2 from drive B. You can change your CMOS or BIOS setup and switch cables on the diskette drives. If you receive a COUNTRY.SYS error message with Diskette 1 while redirecting: * Check cables to verify they were switched correctly. * Check the CMOS setup for the drives changed. If problems or questions occur while doing this, contact the system vendor. Creating 5.25-Inch Startable Diskettes -------------------------------------- You need the DOS Debug utility program, about 1.5 MB of space on the hard disk, and two 1.2 MB 5.25-inch diskettes. Label one diskette OS/2 V2.1 525DISK 0 and the other OS/2 V2.1 525DISK 1. 1. Insert the 525DISK 1 diskette in drive A; then type C:\>FORMAT A: /U and press Enter. 2. When prompted for the volume label, type DISK 1 and press Enter. 3. When "Format another diskette (Y/N)?" appears, press Y and then Enter. 4. Remove the diskette and insert 525DISK 0; then press Enter. 5. When prompted for the volume label, type DISK 0 and press Enter. 6. When "Format another diskette (Y/N)?" appears, press N and then Enter. 7. Insert the OS/2 v2.1 Installation Diskette in drive B; then type the following commands, pressing Enter after each: C:\>DEBUG -L DS:0 1 0 1 -E 13 60 -E 14 09 -E 15 F9 -E 16 07 -E 18 0F -W DS:0 0 0 1 -Q C:\>COPY B:\OS2BOOT A:\ C:\>COPY B:\OS2LDR A:\ C:\>COPY B:\OS2LDR.MSG A:\ C:\>COPY B:\OS2KRNLI A:\ C:\>COPY B:\ABIOS.SYS A:\ C:\>COPY B:\*.BIO A:\ 8. Remove the Installation Diskette from drive B and the 525DISK 0 diskette from drive A. 9. Insert 525DISK 1 in drive A and OS/2 Diskette 1 in drive B. 10. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each: C:\>MD BINST C:\>COPY B:\*.* BINST C:\>DEL BINST\BUNDLE C:\>DEL BINST\SYSINST2.EXE C:\>COPY BINST\*.* A:\ C:\>ECHO SET OS2_SHELL=CMD.EXE>> A:\CONFIG.SYS C:\>ECHO SET DISKETTESOURCE=B:\ >> A:\CONFIG.SYS 11. Insert 525DISK 0 in drive A; then restart the system. 12. When prompted for Diskette 1, insert 525DISK 1 in drive A. 13. Press Enter. You are now at the A: prompt. 14. Insert OS/2 Diskette 1 in drive B; then type B:\SYSINST2 and press Enter. The OS/2 installation starts from drive B. 15. When prompted, insert the OS/2 v2.1 Installation diskettes in drive B. 16.
