Black Screen, Blinking Cursor Before Logo Screen during Startup

DESCRIPTION

During the installation process, you are prompted to remove the 
diskette and press enter to restart the system.  Before the OS/2 Logo 
Screen appears, the system stops at a black screen, with a blinking 
cursor.

If Boot Manager is installed, you see the Boot Manager menu.  After you 
choose the OS/2 partition, however, the system stops at the black 
screen and blinking cursor.


RESOLUTION


1. Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in drive A: and restart the 
   computer.

2. When prompted, insert the OS/2 Installation Disk 1 and press
   Enter.

3. At the Welcome Screen, press F3 to escape to a command prompt.

4. Type FDISK /NEWMBR and press Enter.

5. Re-insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette and type: 

        SYSINSTX X: 

   (where X: is the drive that OS/2 resides on).

    Note:  If you are using the High Performance Filing System
           (HPFS) on this partition, you must do the following:
               
           a. Type CD X:\OS2\DLL 

           b. Type A:SYSINSTX X: 

     (where X: is the drive that OS/2 resides on)

6.  Remove all diskettes and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
