OSINETHE - OS/2 WARP FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION LOCKS UP WITH NE2000 CARD IN SYSTEM 01/29/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 Warp for Windows Installation Locks Up with NE2000 Card in System ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of OS/2 Warp for Windows in a system with an NE2000 adapter set for port 300, the system locks up. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following statement ahead of any other BASEDEV statements: BASEDEV=RESERVE.SYS /IO:300,10 Note: For OS/2 Warp, the statement is: BASEDEV=RESERVE.SYS /IO:300,32 For OS/2 Warp Fullpack, it is: BASEDEV=RESERVE.SYS /IO:300,20 This reserves I/O port 300 for the NE2000 adapter. The problem occurs when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del from DOS to install OS/2. The card is still ON from the DOS session. If you perform a shutdown and restart the system before installing OS/2, the system will not lock up. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
