OSINFLPK - OS/2 WARP FULLPACK INSTALLATION LOCKS UP WHEN LOADING MITFX001.ADD 02/07/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 Warp Fullpack Installation Locks Up when Loading MITFX001.ADD ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of the OS/2 Warp Fullpack from a CD-ROM, the system locks up at Diskette 1 before the "Loading Please Wait" message appears. The diskette drive has trouble reading a file and might be rescanning the same track repeatedly before the lockup occurs. Pressing Alt+F2 indicates that the MITFX001.ADD driver was being loaded when the problem occurred. RESOLUTION Make a new copy of Diskette 1 and arrange the files so the DOSCALL1 and HPFS.IFS files are copied to the diskette last: 1. Type the following, pressing Enter after each, to create a directory called "DISK1" on the hard disk: C: (or any other drive letter) MD DISK1 2. Type the following, pressing Enter after each, to copy all the files from Diskette 1 to the new directory: CD DISK1 COPY A:* 3. Type the following, pressing Enter after each, to delete the two largest files in the directory: DEL DOSCALL1.DLL DEL HPFS.IFS 4. Type the following, pressing Enter after each, to change the volume label on a formatted diskette to "DISK 1": LABEL A: DISK 1 Note: Use this diskette instead of the original Diskette 1 for subsequent installations. 5. Type DEL * Y and press Enter to erase all the files in the DISK1 directory. 6. Insert the original Diskette 1 in drive A; then type the following, pressing Enter after each, to copy DOSCALL1.DLL and HPFS.IFS to the DISK1 directory: COPY A:DOSCALL1.DLL COPY A:HPFS.IFS 7. Type COPY * A: and press Enter to copy these two files from the DISK1 directory to the new Diskette 1. The new Diskette 1 is ready to use. 8. Remove the files from the DISK1 directory, remove the DISK1 directory, and reinstall OS/2 using the new Diskette 1. Some systems cannot read Diskette 1 because of a BIOS error that creates timing problems when the outermost tracks of the diskette are read. Because Diskette 1 of the CD-ROM installation set is almost full of small files, many of these files are pushed to the outer tracks of the diskette, which is where the timing problems begin. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
