OSINLOGO - SYSTEM LOCKS UP ON OS/2 LOGO SCREEN DURING INSTALLATION 06/13/96 ======================================================================= System Locks Up on OS/2 Logo Screen during Installation ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION When restarting the system during the installation, the system locks up at the logo screen and there appears to be no activity. RESOLUTION This is normally due to a device driver, BIOS, or controller problem. If you are locking up on a device driver, it could be due to a conflict with another driver loading. If this is not the case, and if you have a BIOS older than 1992, it is possible that you need a BIOS upgrade due to changes in the kernel for OS/2 Warp. It's also possible that you have a bad controller. In that case, you need to replace it. If you have a controller that is not supported, you need a special driver for it. Try the following to resolve the problem: 1. Shut down and restart your system. 2. When the white rectangle (the OS/2 flag) appears in the upper-left corner, press ALT+F2. This will display the drivers as they are loading. Make a note of the last driver loaded (you'll need this information in the step 3). 3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on either Diskette 1 or on the hard drive, depending on where you are in the installation. Remark out (REM) the driver last loaded before the system locked up. If this does not resolve the lock up, check what level of BIOS you have and what type of controller is in your system. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
