OSINMCRN - INSTALLING OS/2 ON A MICRON TRANSPORT PENTIUM 133 07/17/96 ====================================================================== Installing OS/2 on a Micron Transport Pentium 133 ====================================================================== Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of OS/2, on Diskette 1 you receive the error: "OS/2 is Unable To Operate Your Hard Disk or Diskette Drive." If you have a Micron Transport Pentium 133 system, the following steps should resolve the problem for you; however there are other Micron Pentium 133 systems available. These other systems encounter the same error message, but this workaround may not work. For these other systems, Micron Technical Support has verified that this is not an OS/2 issue. Please contact your hardware vendor. RESOLUTION The following steps eliminate the problem on Micron Transport Pentium 133 systems; for other Micron Pentium 133 systems, please contact your hardware vendor. 1. Download the following two files: 360K.ZIP and WARPINST.EXE. They can be located at the following sites: * The PCCBBS at (919-517-0001) * The World Wide Web at http://www.pc.ibm.com * Anonymous ftp to ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com. - 360K.ZIP is located in the /pub/pccbbs/os2_fixes directory, - WARPINST.EXE is located in the /pub/pccbbs/csd directory. 2. Make a DISKCOPY of the Installation Diskette 1. 3. Copy the file WARPINST.EXE into a directory on your hard drive, then change to that directory. 4. Type WARPINST to expand the file. Follow the installation procedure for updating your Installation Diskette 1, documented in the README.UPD. 5. After updating the Installation Diskette 1, unzip the file 360K.ZIP, using PKUNZIP. 6. After you unzip the file it will expand the driver IBM1FLPY.ADD dated 8-19-92. Copy this driver to the updated Installation Diskette 1. You should overwrite the IBM1FLPY.ADD on the diskette. 7. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the updated Installation Diskette 1. 8. Go to the line that reads BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT. Add REM in front of this statement. This statement should now read as follows: REM BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT. 9. Modify the line BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD to read as follows: BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:0 /U:1 /ATAPI 10. Add the following line to the end of the CONFIG.SYS SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1. 11. Insert the Installation Diskette and restart the system. 12. When prompted to insert the Installation Diskette 1, insert the modified Installation Diskette 1. The installation should now continue. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
