OSINPHDR - PHANTOM DRIVES DURING INSTALLATION 10/17/96 ======================================================================= Phantom Drives during Installation ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After modifying the OS/2 Warp 4 installation diskettes to add support for an NCR SCSI controller, drive letters are incorrectly assigned during startup on the installation diskettes. This causes the installation program to look for a nonexistent or incorrect drive, and an error message "the device is not ready." The CD-ROM is assigned an incorrect drive letter. RESOLUTION Use a text editor, such as TEDIT shipped with OS/2, to edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the modified OS/2 Installation Diskette 1; check for and remove any duplicate lines. Duplicate BASEDEV=OS2DASD.DMD statements cause this error. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
