OSINSRPT - COM.SYS AND VCOM.SYS ERRORS WHEN SERIAL SUPPORT NOT INSTALLED 10/25/96 ======================================================================= COM.SYS and VCOM.SYS Errors when Serial Support Not Installed ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation, if you choose not to install any serial device support, COM.SYS and VCOM.SYS drivers are still installed in CONFIG.SYS. Therefore, two errors occur on startup, indicating that the drivers didn't load: Device COM.SYS did not load Line xxx of the CONFIG.SYS is ignored. Press enter to continue. Device VCOM.SYS did not load Line xxx of the CONFIG.SYS is ignored. Press enter to continue. Pressing Enter after each statement allows the system to startup normally. These drivers are loaded even when you choose not to install serial device support because they are required for installation on some ThinkPad systems. This problem occurs on various hardware types. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue: 1. Restart the system. 2. Press Alt-F1 when the OS/2 and white rectangle appear in the top left corner of the screen. 3. When the blue Recovery Choices screen appears, choose F2 for a command prompt. 4. From the command prompt, type TEDIT \CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. 5. Restart the system. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
