                        OS/2 2.1 Installation

DESCRIPTION

After installing OS/2 for Windows, you get a red screen or red box and 
the error message:

   Open file error.

RESOLUTION

The SETUP.INF file is damaged. Copy it to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
subdirectory:

1. Go to the drive where Windows 3.1 is installed.

2. Type CD\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and press Enter to change to the
   WINDOWS\SYSTEMS subdirectory.

3. Type REN SETUP.INF SETUP.OLD and press Enter to rename SETUP.INF.

4. Insert Windows 3.1 Diskette 1 in drive A.

5. Type A: and press Enter.

6. Type COPY SETUP.INF x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and press Enter (x is the drive
   where Windows 3.1 is installed).

7. Remove the diskette.

8. Try the installation again.
