OSINSVGA - OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 INSTALLATION LOCKS UP AT LAST DISKETTE 01/17/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 Installation Locks Up at Last Diskette ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION The installation stops at or after Diskette 17 (Blue) or Diskette 14 (Salmon). Enough of the system is loaded to get the Desktop. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. You need to add the VIDEO statements to the CONFIG.SYS file on the hard disk. Note: If you installed your system from a CD-ROM, review step 5 before beginning. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. If the keyboard is locked, turn the system off and then on again. 2. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert Diskette 1; then press Enter. 3. At the Welcome screen, press Esc to get the the A: prompt. 4. Change to the drive on which OS/2 is installed. 5. Change to the \OS2 directory (for example, CD \OS2). 6. Type DIR *.* > SVGADATA.PMI and press Enter. 7. Type SETVGA x: and press Enter (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed). 8. When SETVGA starts, it prompts for Display Driver Diskette 1. If you installed from CD-ROM, you have to create this diskette. Type the following and press Enter (cd is the letter of your CD-ROM drive, and size is the size of your diskette--35 for 3.5-inch; 525 for 5.25-inch): cd:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF cd:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISP1.DSK A: 9. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system and go to the OS/2 Desktop. 10. Open an OS/2 Window session; then type DSPINSTL and press Enter. This installs the video adapter and correct resolution for your video. 11. Perform a shutdown; then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. 12. Do a Selective Install for your printer and WIN-OS/2 support. If procedure is not successful, try the following: 1. Change to the \OS2\DLL subdirectory and check for the following files and status: IBMVGA32.DLL 42378 4-22-93 3:54P IBMDEV32.DLL 85326 4-22-93 4:08P BVHVGA.DLL 40892 4-25-93 4:04P DISPLAY.DLL 77120 4-29-93 9:24P If the files are not present, insert Display Driver Diskette 1 in drive A; then at the command prompt, type \OS2\UNPACK A:\VGA and press Enter. 2. Insert the appropriate diskette from the following in drive A: 3.5-inch blue: Diskette 2 3.5-inch salmon: Diskette 3 5.25-inch: Diskette 4 3. Type \OS2\UNPACK A:\BUNDLE /N:DISPLAY.DLL and press Enter to unpack the DISPLAY.DLL files. 4. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and make sure it has the following statements (x is the partition where OS/2 is installed): DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,x:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_VGA SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA) DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS This is not the solution for every case.
