OSINSY25 - SYS02025 AND SYS02027 WHEN INSTALLING OS/2 2.X ON NON-IBM SYSTEMS 01/29/96 ======================================================================= SYS02025 and SYS02027 when Installing OS/2 2.x on Non-IBM Systems ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation on non-IBM systems that have AMI BIOS, the system displays the SYS02025 and SYS02027 error messages at Diskette 1. RESOLUTION 1. Using the installation diskettes, try starting another system that is already running OS/2. 2. Make sure the BIOS is dated 5/9/91, and the keyboard controller chip is version KF. The following information appears when you start the system: AMI BIOS and AMI BIOS Plus: aaaa-bbbb-mmddyy-Kc AMI Hi-Flex BIOS: ee-ffff-bbbbbb-gggggggg-mmddyy-hhhhhhhh-c The IDE hard disk mmddyy should be 040990 or later. For other drives, including MFM, RLL, ESDI, or SCSI, the mmddyy should be 092588 or later. The controller-chip version is at the bottom of the same screen. Check the last digit in the long string of digits (the c above). This digit probably is 8, B, D, or F. The required level should be F for OS/2 2.0 or OS/2 1.3. Press the Insert key when starting the system so this information will remain on the screen. If the information is not up to date, contact the vendor. 3. If the previous steps do not solve the problem, perform diagnostic tests on the drive controller and the diskette drive. SYS02025 and SYS02027 on the Installation Diskette of OS/2 2.1 -------------------------------------------------------------- The diskette drivers might have been swapped without updating CMOS. Correcting the CMOS settings lets you do the installation without getting the error message. SYS02025 and SYS02027 at OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette on System with Phoenix BIOS 1.03 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Make a backup copy of the OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette. 2. Delete the following files from the COPY of the Installation Diskette: OS2LDR OS2BOOT 3. Copy the following files from the original diskette to the copy: OS2LDR OS2BOOT The SYS02025 and SYS02027 errors also occur when the diskette-drive cables (3.5- and 5.25-inch) are switched without updating CMOS. Updating CMOS corrects the problem. You can obtain a "redirection fix" that lets you install from drive B, or you can physically change the drives and CMOS settings. The fix is available from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001) or from the Internet (http://www.ibm.pc.ibm.com). The file to download is: * For blue diskettes, INS21L.ZIP * For salmon or green diskettes, INS21M.ZIP Note: These diskettes are for OS/2 2.1 ONLY! ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
