OSINTOID - TOSHIBA CD-ROM MODELS NOT RECOGNIZED BY OS/2 08/29/96 ======================================================================= Toshiba CD-ROM Models Not Recognized by OS/2 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Some models and revisions of the Toshiba CD-ROM drive fail to be recognized under OS/2 Warp Full Pak or OS/2 Warp Connect on the primary or secondary IDE connector. There are several variations of Toshiba CD-ROM drive which give different results: CD-ROM Drive Version ROM Version Status XM5302B 101 KA50419 Works XM5302B 004 KA50419 Works XM5302B 201 KD50728 Fails XM5402B 000 QA51226 Fails XM5402B 000 QA51031 Fails An example of a failing CD-ROM scenario is as follows: A Toshiba XM5302B CD-ROM is added to a P5-90 system running OS/2 version 2.11, Warp FullPack, or Warp Connect. The system locks up on startup, before the BIOS message appears on screen. If the CD-ROM is disconnected and the system restarted, but then powered off after the power-on beep, the system starts and runs without problem. However, if the system is turned off again and restarted (with the CD-ROM still attached), it will lock up as before. The failure is more prevalent on Pentium 90 MHz motherboards which use the Intel TRITON chipset. The failure occurs with either AWARD or AMI BIOS versions. RESOLUTION The problem was corrected with the addition of a 33 Ohm resistor in the reset line of the IDE cable. Note: This is not an OS/2 issue; please contact your hardware vendor for assistance. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
