                         OS/2 Warp BonusPak

DESCRIPTION

An EPFIE609 or other error message related to UNPACK is received when 
trying to install IBM Works from the OS/2 Warp BonusPak.

The system also might lock up, without an error message, during the IBM 
Works installation.

RESOLUTION

1. Shut down the system and insert the Installation Diskette; then
   restart the system.

2. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert
   Diskette 1.

3. When the Welcome screen appears, press F3 to get to a command prompt.

4. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2; then type CHKDSK x: /F and
   press Enter (x is the drive where OS/2 is installed).

Check ALL partitions for errors. The problem can be caused by damaged 
extended attribute (EA) data. The UNPACK utility program produces an 
error if it detects damaged EA data.

Note: Running a DOS- or Windows-based disk-defragmentation utility
      program results in damaged EA data. DOS-based defragmentation
      programs should never be run against OS/2 partitions. DOS is not
      EA-aware and "orphans" EA data from its corresponding file,
      resulting in errors.
