OSINW4RS - LOCAL INSTALL OF OS/2 WARP 4 FROM A CD-ROM USING A RESPONSE FILE 10/18/96 ======================================================================= Local Install of OS/2 Warp 4 from a CD-ROM Using a Response File ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document describes how to do a local installation of OS/2 Warp 4 using a response file. This procedure is for ISA computers. RESOLUTION 1. From the Desktop, open the OS/2 System folder. 2. From the OS/2 system window, open the Command Prompts folder. 3. From the Command Prompts window, double-click on the OS/2 Window icon. 4. At the OS/2 command prompt, change to the CD-ROM drive containing the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM (for example, type D:). 5. Type CDINST, press Enter, and follow the instructions on screen to create the three installation startup diskettes. 6. Insert Diskette #2, the last diskette of the three, into drive A:. 7. Change to the A: drive. 8. Type DEL A:\SYSINST2.EXE, then press Enter. 9. Type DEL A:\BUNDLE, then press Enter. 10. Type DEL A:\MOUSE.SYS, then press Enter. 11. Type COPY C:\OS2\INSTALL\RSPINST.EXE A:\, then press Enter (where C: is the drive that OS/2 is installed on). 12. Type COPY C:\OS2\INSTALL\SAMPLE.RSP A:\OS2SE40.RSP, then press Enter. 13. Edit OS2SE40.RSP with an ASCII editor; for example, type E A:\OS2SE40.RSP. 14. Change the following keyword valuepairs: CDROM=1 ExitOnError=1 FormatPartition=1 MigrateConfigFiles=0 RebootRequired=1 TargetDrive=C: (change to the drive you want to install to) 15. Save OS2SE40.RSP to A: 16. Remove Diskette #2 and insert Diskette #1. 17. Type E A:\CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. Delete the following statements: set os2_shell=sysinst2.exe device=\mouse.sys set os2_shell=cdinst.exe set os2_shell=cdboot.exe set exitwhendone=1 18. Add the following statements: After protshell=sysinst1.exe, add: set os2_shell=rspinst.exe a:\os2se40.rsp After set cdrominst=1, add: set sourcepath=d:\os2image (where d: is the CD-ROM Drive) 19. Save CONFIG.SYS to A: 20. Take the three installation diskettes and the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM to the install client. 21. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 22. Insert Diskette #0 into the diskette drive and restart the computer. 23. Insert Diskettes #1 and #2 when prompted. 24. Remove Diskette #2 when the progress indicator indicates that files are being copied from the CD-ROM. 25.
