OSINWIND - WILL OS/2 WARP INSTALLATION REQUIRE WINDOWS DISKETTES? 02/09/96 ======================================================================= Will OS/2 Warp Installation Require Windows Diskettes? ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION OS/2 Warp Installation stops if Windows diskettes are required and are not available RESOLUTION To determine if your version of OS/2 Warp requires Windows diskettes, check the file, x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SETUP.INF (x is the drive where Windows is installed). This file has a [disks] section. The default line for Disk 1 is: 1 =. ,"Microsoft Windows 3.1 Disk #1",disk1 This directs the request for Windows diskettes to the diskette drive. If OS/2 Warp encounters a line such as: 1 = C:\WINDOWS\DRIVERS,"Microsoft Windows 3.1 Disk #1",disk1 It looks at C:\WINDOWS\DRIVERS for the necessary files, and as they appear on the actual Windows diskettes. Most of these files are compressed and have an underscore as the last character of the file name (for example, WINHELP.EX_). If SETUP.INF points to these files AND they are on the hard disk, OS/2 Warp does not prompt you for Windows diskettes during installation. The Windows system files that appear AFTER Windows is installed are not the files OS/2 Warp is looking for. OS/2 Warp is looking for the files as they appear on the Windows installation diskettes to ensure the code used for WIN-OS/2 support is the same code that was shipped with Windows. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
