OSMKKEYB - OS/2 2.1 SESSION LOCKS UP WHEN KEYBOARDS ARE SWITCHED 02/07/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 2.1 Session Locks Up when Keyboards Are Switched ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION OS/2 sessions lock up when keyboards are switched through a switchbox. "Hot plugging" works in WIN-OS/2 sessions, but is not supported in OS/2 2.1 RESOLUTION If you are switching keyboards, consider: * Keyboard BIOS revisions should be AMI version F, G, or H. Version F is specified in OS/2 documentation, and AMI has revisions G and H to update keyboard BIOS. * The OS/2 keyboard device driver is very timing-sensitive. Cabling should be kept to short lengths to limit timing issues. Maximum cable length, from computer to keyboard, should be 10 feet. * The keyboard scan code should be 100% IBM 101-key compatible. * If the problem is intermittent, check the plug and socket. Eliminate adapters to ensure a good connection at the system. * For PS/2 models, use Misco Inc. and Ruthers Inc. switchboxes. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
