OSMKSYMB - COMMA AND PERIOD KEYS ON AMS 5300 LAPTOPS DISPLAY SYMBOL CHARACTERS IN OS/2 02/06/96 ======================================================================= Comma and Period Keys on AMS 5300 Laptops Display Symbol Characters in OS/2 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION On the AMS 5300 series laptops, the comma (,) and period (.) characters are not displayed when their keys are pressed. A symbol is displayed instead. The uppercase characters, < and > are displayed correctly when the Shift key is used. RESOLUTION This is not an OS/2 code problem. The system board might have an incompatible controller chip. It is the actual chip, not the BIOS, that controls the keyboard and mouse for the system. The problem also could be related to the wrong video-mode setup on the system; for example, when a video card with the WD90C24 chip set is set to the mono mode instead of the 256K VGA mode for systems running VGA and 8514 video modes. Contact the vendor for this problem. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
