OSMM0015 - SYSTEM DOES NOT RECOGNIZE CD-ROM DRIVE IN OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 01/30/96 ======================================================================= System Does Not Recognize CD-ROM Drive in OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION The following message is received when issuing a command to the CD-ROM drive or viewing the drive's returns: SYS0015: The system cannot find the specified drive. No icon for the CD-ROM drive is displayed. RESOLUTION 1. If the CD-ROM drive is an external drive, make sure it is plugged in and turned on. Note: An external drive must be turned on before the system is started. 2. Make sure all cables connected to the drive are securely fastened. 3. Make sure the drive is a SCSI drive. If it is "daisy-chained" to another device, it must have a terminator plug. 4. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and make sure it has the following statements: * For the file system and virtual device driver: IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS * For the SCSI devices: BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD /LED BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD Note: The ADD file is different, depending on the SCSI adapter installed. * For the Pro AudioSpectrum: DEVICE=D:\MMOS2\MVPRODD.SYS /I11 /D5 /N:PAS161$ * For the Sound Blaster: DEVICE=D:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 7 240 4 /N:SBAud1$ Note: The driver and parameters differ depending on the Sound Blaster card installed. * For the CD-ROM drive device driver: - For SCSI drives: DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q BASEDEV=TOSHCDS1.FLT Note: The FLT file is different depending on which SCSI-1 drive is installed. SCSI-2 drives do not require the FLT file. - For Sound Blaster drives: DEVICE=C:\OS2\SBPCD2.SYS /P:240 - Sony 31A uses an ADD file. - For the IBM Portable drive: BASEDEV=PARCDOS2.ADD 5. Verify that all files specified in the CONFIG.SYS file are present on the hard disk. Drivers specified without a path in BASEDEV statements are in the \OS2 directory; those specified without a path in DEVICE statements are in the root directory. 6. Check spelling closely. If any file does not exist or is not listed in the CONFIG.SYS file, do a Selective Install for OS/2 CD-ROM and SCSI support. 7. Rerun any installation instructions that came with the CD-ROM drive or controller and adapter cards. 8. Run diagnostic tests of the CD-ROM drive and controller card. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
