OSMMCDID - IDE CD-ROM SUPPORT FOR OS/2 WARP 3.0 02/07/96 ======================================================================= IDE CD-ROM Support for OS/2 Warp 3.0 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document includes a list of compatible IDE CD-ROMs. For additional CD-ROM information, see the following documents: * OSCMMCDR - General CD-ROM Information for OS/2 Warp * OSMMCDDD - OS/2 Warp CD-ROM Compatibility List RESOLUTION IDE CD-ROM Support ------------------ The IDE hard-disk driver, IBM1S506.ADD, recognizes ATAPI devices as generic. IBMIDECD.FLT, a filter, loads afterwards and scans for the generic ATAPI devices. When it locates an ATAPI device, it detects if the device is a CD-ROM. OS2CDROM.DMD and CDFS.IFS are required for the CD-ROM to work. Note: The IDE CD-ROM cannot be configured as the Master. IBMINT13.I13 cannot be used for the IDE CD-ROM. Following are compatible IDE CD-ROMs: * Mitsumi: FX00IDE * NEC: CDR-250 CDR-260 CDR-2vi * Sony: 55D 55E * Panasonic: 571 * Wearnes: CDD-120 Note: For the Sony 55D and 55E, and the Mitsumi FX001IDE, download the current level of OS/2 Warp FixPak. All IDE CD-ROMs need to comply with ATAPI 1.2 or higher. If the drivers are not at this level, contact the vendor for updated drivers. For NEC 260 compliant with 1.7, the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD statement in the CONFIG.SYS files should be: BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:x /U:y /ATAPI /A refers to the number of the adapter the CD-ROM is attached to. /U refers to the unit or device number of the particular adapter. /ATAPI enables ATA Packet Interface protocol. If the CD-ROM is attached to the second IDE port or adapter in a system, and is the only device on the adapter, edit the CONFIG.SYS statement to read: BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:1 /U:0 /ATAPI After Installation, IDE CD-ROM is Not Installed ----------------------------------------------- OS/2 Warp 3.0 is installed. When restarting the system, the IDE CD-ROM is not recognized, or support is not installed. 1. Open System Setup 2. Select Selective Install 3. Select CD-ROM support 4. Highlight Other IDE CD-ROM Support from the CD-ROM selection list. Note: During installation, the brand of the CD-ROM was selected; for example, Sony or NEC. 5. Continue the installation until complete. 6. Remove the CD and restart the system. The statements in the CONFIG.SYS file are: IBM1S506.ADD /A:? /U:? /ATAPI (? is the correct parameter needed; see above) BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS The drivers for these statements and the CD-ROM are in the OS2\BOOT subdirectory. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
